Quite the reversal from early season

Sacks Allowed

Games 1-4: 15
Games 5-8: 1

Anybody pinpoint the reason for the turnaround? Improved pocket presence by Morgan? Improved line play? Are we max protecting more? Kirk C calling for quicker developing plays?

The biggest reason is because the line is picking things up better and just playing better. We have also been able to run the ball more effectively and haven't had to pass as much.

Morgan gets better
Line is improving and had some guys in new spots early
Smith was rusty from his time off and timing seemed off.

All have improved.

All of the above. More specifically I'll add 1) it seems Morgan and RBs are keeping the ball in the belly longer for the RPO which is freezing the D one step longer, and 2) the blocking scheme was extremely vanilla the first few games but now they are using traps (usually the H-back/TE) and power very effectively to blow up any stunts at the point of contact. I"m assuming that keeps the defense from stunting every play like they were doing early.

Watching Morgan move around in the pocket against Maryland showed how much the young man has learned since the beginning of the season.

Just finished listening to latest Gopher GridironPodcast. Derek Burns spoke at length about improvement in offensive line play and highlighted that the opposing d-line dong stunts was working well against us earlier in the year, now the guys are picking them up much better.

The visual on those "dong stunts" tho... Thanks for a laugh.

Ryan & Derek are excellent on that podcast! Always a good listen, especially when Derek is involved breaking down the technical aspect of play.
