Gophs win + Wisc loss next week should put them inside Top 15 for PSU match up.

Why is Texas still #15 after that embarrassing display yesterday?

They actually got fewer votes this week in the AP Poll. They went from 672 last week to 627 this week and were jumped by Baylor. They got fewer votes this week but still received the 15th highest number of points.

In 10 days the CFP rankings will come out.

If Minnesota beats Maryland, it seems likely that the CFP committee would place the Gophers at #10-12.

The CFP committee’s initial rankings are always very different than the polls. They focus less on guessing how good a team is and more on what a team has “earned”. They like ranking unbeaten teams near the top, because their rankings are designed to work like an elimination tournament.

Per the U of MN:

Minnesota Moves to No. 17 in AP Poll

Minnesota moved up to No. 17 in the latest AP Top 25 poll released today after its 42-7 road win at Rutgers on Saturday. The Gophers are ranked No. 16 in the Coaches Poll, which was also released today.

Minnesota entered the AP Poll at No. 20 last week and this week's ranking of No. 17 is the highest Minnesota has been ranked in the poll since it was No. 13 on Oct. 3, 2004.

Prior to this season, Minnesota was last ranked in the AP Poll on Nov. 23, 2014, when it was No. 22.

Dating back to last season, Minnesota has won nine straight games (the last time Minnesota won nine straight games was during the 1941-42 seasons), which is tied for the fourth longest winning streak in the nation. Clemson has the longest winning streak at 22 games and is followed by Ohio State (13) and Appalachian State (12). Minnesota follows at nine wins and is tied with Baylor.

The Gophers are one of 10 undefeated teams in college football are 7-0 for the first time since 1960. Minnesota is 4-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1967 and is 11-2 in its last 13 games.

Ha, no. It want that long ago they put on OSU over PSU despite head to head result. It’s garbage.

I'm not surprised but I really don't get the argument for putting Wisconsin above Minnesota. The Gophers have done as well as they could and the Badgers haven't. Not winning some games by more shouldn't hurt the Gophers because the goal is to win, not to win big.

Fortunately these rankings mean nothing but it would be nice to be recognized for playing so well.

Fox needs to update its Wisc v OSU promos...
