To save $2000 in a year, your DirecTV bill needs to be north of $200 each month.

That begs the question: Just how many adult "films" are you ordering?

The $2000/year is the combination of cutting the cord at home and having them cut my internet and land line costs to keep me and stopping DirecTV at the lake. I get three sites for the same price at YTTV. So two TVs at home and one at the lake.
But I must afmit your knowledge of what porno films cost is impressive and revealing.
 





What if YouTube TV had two options, a sports heavy subscription for $55 and another option with no sports channels except ESPN and ESPN2 for $45?

Yes it is slower to change channels. You pretty much have to go through the guide, which is fine for me. But that's about the only possible downside, from a cable/sat level experience. The rest of it is very high quality, even on modest internet connections.

And for the price, I recommend it to anyone.

Right. It's the same old game, from the same old playbook, every time.

They announce that a channel is being dropped, and sometimes it even goes so far as actually getting dropped.

Then people get pissed and start calling/emailing. If it happens enough, someone blinks and a new dead is agreed upon. Otherwise, not enough people care and that's that.
 



College football is big money. Every one wants a piece of the action.

Unfortunately for fans, we have to roll with the punches. We ultimately are the ones paying regardless of how you chose to receive your broadcast.

I expect Fox, CBS, and others to try to sock it to the streaming video sites who in turn will sock it to you.
 

Good news for YTTV subscribers. Didn’t cancel yet was planning on and signed up for the Hulu free trial. One day with Hulu and I would rather keep YTTV.

The only other streaming service I tried was DirecTV Now, and the streaming quality wasn't even close.

Whatever YTTV has for algorithms, servers, or whatever else there is that dictates streaming quality ... they must be the cream of the crop. I've had 99.99% excellent streaming quality from them.

Agreed, and have to think the others will need to up their game. You never want to have only one viable option in the event of channel changes or rising subscription prices. The nature of every business is to consolidate for efficiency and pricing leverage so I fully expect costs to rise in the years ahead. And, more and more the content producers will be the conveyors and can name their prices. Raise your hand if you think Disney+ will be 6.99 in 3 years. If Fox decided to exclusively stream their own content ie FS and BTN how much would you be willing to pay? $20 per month, $100, $5? Some of us are so addicted to sports we might pony up a lot more, or resort to more under the table piracy...

Directtv squeezes people for hundreds for 3-4 months of NFL coverage suggesting the ceiling is pretty highly what fans will shell out.

Well the question comes down to: will there be a day when there no longer is such a thing as a live channel?

Will all TV be consumed from interfaces that are just menus of on-demand content?
