Johnson Named B1G Player of the Week

University of Minnesota wide receiver Tyler Johnson was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after a three-touchdown performance in a 35-32 win against Georgia Southern.

The senior hauled in 10 catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns in Minnesota's 18th straight nonconference win. Johnson, who was named First Team All-Big Ten last season, scored touchdowns that covered 73 (career long TD), seven and two yards. His third touchdown of the game came with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter and completed a 13-play, 75-yard drive that lifted Minnesota to a comeback win.

Saturday's game was the third time (Michigan State in 2017 and Miami, Ohio in 2018) that Johnson has caught three touchdowns in one game, which is a school record. In his last 16 games – since the start of the 2018 season – Johnson has 95 catches for 1,408 yards and 15 touchdowns.

This is the first time Johnson has been honored with a weekly award from the Big Ten. However, he is the second Gopher to be recognized by the Big Ten this year. Antoine Winfield Jr. was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9 after making an interception in double overtime to secure Minnesota's win at Fresno State.
