MN Gophers vs FSU Bulldogs Game Stats

Gophers > Fresno in nearly every statistical category (though none by a wide margin).

For what felt like a struggle all night, the Gophers were winning statistically. Untimely penalties and fumbles nearly turned this into a loss.

In the end they just made the big plays they needed to when they needed to. Autman-Bell, Winfield Jr., and Lantz all did exactly what they needed to at just the right moment.

If we don't extend a bunch of their drives with stupid penalties the stats would probably look much more lopsided in our favor. The huge one of course was Dever's bonehead penalty which made the offense wait to get the ball back and allowed them to finish off the drive with a TD. There were at least 2 other 3rd or 4th down stops wiped off the board by penalties (Holding on Howden I believe and the roughing the passer on Oliver). Oliver's was especially bad because when you hit a QB in the head like that they are going to call it every single time.

I know it is always easy to say but without the bonehead mistakes and self inflicted wounds this game could have been a route in our favor.

Kamal Martin with 13 tackles almost doubles up the next highest at 7 (Barber). Nice to see him back.
