After not seeing Rachel Banham play in about a week, I began to suspect she was injured. Confirmed by this https://www.google.com/amp/s/highpos...ttle-storm/amp High Post Hoops article.

“Rachel Banham’s injury was a turning point of the game ...

“There was 1:24 left in the first quarter when Rachel Banham went up for an offensive rebound. ... The scoreboard when she left the floor read 21-15 in favor of Connecticut, by halftime it read 46-34 in favor of the Seattle Storm.

“By the time Banham hit the ground coming down from the rebound, she was clutching her ankle. She pulled herself to the baseline realizing that play was continuing at the other end of the court.

“After the timeout was called Jasmine Thomas rushed to her side. Banham was helped off the court and eventually ruled out for the rest of the game.

“The Sun trailed for most of the last three quarters, having never recovered after being shaken up by the Banham injury. Though no official diagnosis has been made, Banham was ruled out for Sunday’s game.”

In spite of the Suns play going south after the injury, they pulled off a last-minute miracle win by means of a steal - that left Coach Miller speechless at the press conference.

    Update:

It looks like Rachel suited up for Friday’s game with the Liberty. She was at pre-game practice wearing an ankle brace, and was walking fairly well in a Twitter video of the team getting off the bus (and flashed a V sign). So although she is not 100% at least it’s “only” a mundane ankle sprain, apparently. Coach did not need to play her, as Jasmine Thomas played 33 minutes, and Hiedeman (back from an injured big toe herself) covered the other 7.

In at least one of last week’s games, the Sun were down all 3 of their reserve guards. But managed to tough it out.

AZB started and played most of the game, but Tina Charles may have been injured as she played less than a minute - and without her the Liberty didn’t have a fightin chance. The Sun won easily (although the Liberty apparently gave them some good competition) and secured a top-two rank and at least a single-bye but probably a double-bye playoff seed.

Charles isn’t injured. The Liberty are out of playoff contention, so they’re parking Charles probably to keep her healthy, plus they might be checking out which players they want to keep for next year.

It also helps secure their best odds of getting the #1 pick in the draft lottery.

In the Connecticut Sun’s Thursday 2nd-game semifinal win over the LA Sparks, Rachel Banham was uber-efficient - scoring 11 points in 9 minutes. In fact, efficiency was the name of the game in that win - with Courtney Williams scoring 25 points in 31 minutes (which, together with Rach, is tantamount to 36 points from one-guard’s-worth (40 min) of playing time), and Jonquel Jones scoring 27 points in 37 minutes.

Oddly (in a weird but unrealistic hypothetical), if the entire Sun team had been that efficient at scoring, the Sun would have scored about 163 points in the regulation 40 minutes. They actually scored 94 points to the Sparks 68 points. In other words, three Sun players came within 5 points of tying the whole Sparks team.

If the Sun can keep up the good work out in LA, then we may see a Mystics vs Sun finals in the W.

As I write this, Rachel B and the CT Sun are beginning semifinal game 3 against the LA Sparks.

Also (re 2nd game) see ...

“Meanwhile, the Sun got production from all over the roster, including Rachel Banham bombing away from three and scoring 11 points while the game was mostly decided.”

I spotted Kenisha Bell recently. Apparently she is playing overseas with Lexie Brown in Israel.

Nice! Perhaps her having played with Lexie on the Lynx, was her connection to get the job. I have to say, those two would make a great guard combo.

Great news for her. Hope she improves her game and gets another chance @ making a team.
