Fifth-year defensive tackle Adam McLean, who recently put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, is no longer a part of the Maryland football team, first-year coach Michael Locksley said Tuesday.

As a redshirt junior last fall, McLean started at nose tackle in the 11 games in which he played, missing one because of injury. He finished with 36 tackles, including a career-high seven at Iowa, and seemed slotted to start again in 2019.

He was a four-star recruit out of high school.

That's gotta hurt

Gophers have lost some recruits but overall this off season (knock on wood) hasn't been devastating or as bad as it has been for others.

Significant movement into and out of college football and basketball programs is the new normal. Gone are the days when a single player would announce a transfer and fans would take a collective gasp and wonder what was wrong with the program.

We should expect every offseason to have turmoil. The hope is that the transfer talent in will equal or eclipse the transfer talent out.
