...and to determine if the FBI's surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016 was legal.

The Associated Press reported that a source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Barr "appointed John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct the inquiry."

"The inquiry will focus on whether the government’s methods to collect intelligence relating to the Trump campaign were lawful and appropriate," The AP added. "Durham has previously investigated law enforcement corruption, the destruction of CIA videotapes and the Boston FBI office’s relationship with mobsters."

In April, a Trump administration official told Fox News that Barr had assembled a team to investigate the origins of the FBI the Obama administration's FBI counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign.

"I am reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016," Barr said during a congressional hearing in April.

How long before lefties start slandering Durham for something or other?

Durham has been on the James Baker (former FBI attorney for Andrew McCabe) case since last fall. It sounds as though Jim Comey may already be under investigation for espionage. Excellent!

Comey is out publicly disparaging anyone who is in a position to discredit him before the sh!t hits the fan, primarily Barr and Rosenstein, b/c he’s going to have to make any accusations or charges against him appear as a personal vendetta as a defense rather than legitimate claims of criminality. This is easier to do with Rosenstein b/c he was a part of the DOJ administration and he may claim that Rosenstein is protecting himself as a co-signatory of the FISA request, but he is attacking Barr’s credibility strictly on Barr’s testimony and handling of the Mueller Report.

Comey is attacking Barr’s professional credibility so vigorously in anticipation that Barr will condemn Comey’s actions as FBI Director after the investigation, and Comey will then have a claim that it’s personal and a protection of Trump rather than a professional critique.

Comey is a lot of things, but he isn’t dumb, and he is working to get ahead of this investigation.

    Pretty much.

In this day and age Comey understands that he needs to do two things- 1) build a sympathetic case for a huge Go Fund Me effort to underwrite his huge legal costs that are ahead 2) by building this sympathy that he was acting to save us all from Trump, he makes it difficult to find a jury that will convict him. He deserves to go to prison for a long time, but that is not going to be easy.

Maybe ya'll can help round up those FISA judges into concentration camps. That'll show 'em for daring to process the law against the corrupt cohorts of Dear Leader.

Recognition to CRG and his crazy sources. Durham is only now being publicly named, but he and his team have been working on this for weeks for AG Barr as CRG mentioned about a week ago.

We can't be sure this is sarcasm anymore. They are utterly OK with a dictator.

I believe that this is a good development. At this point, we have already spent millions and millions of dollars for part of the story, so what is a few million more to find out the whole story? That way, we (the public) can develop more informed opinions about what has really transpired.

And he has been working on other related cases since last year. Better yet he revealed FBI corruption back years ago in the Whitey Bulger case.

Look for those FISC judges to provide some feedback after the IG report on FISC abuse comes out. What will be interesting is what happens with Rudolph Contreras, or if we'll ever get to hear the whole story?

To answer my own question, it took a day for the slander to start. Sen Blumenthal said that the investigation is politically motivated, a waste of Durham’s talent, and threatens to undermine his credibility as a straight shooter.

Just another example of the Potus and his minions using the power of his presidency - as well as those not granted - to corruptly usurp our system of laws. Is that a problem?
