If he is not invited to the combine and doesn't pull out of the draft, he can not return either way.

I believe there are usually about 60 invited to the combine.

How much of that is age and how much of that is because seniors usually aren't as good as the underclassmen who leave? Really talented players leave early. If you've made it to your 4th year in college, that usually means you weren't good enough to get drafted, so of course seniors don't get drafted as frequently.

100% true.

Freshmen and sophomore’s who aren’t one of the best 60 prospects don’t get drafted very often either.

FWIW, here's what happened last year:

2018 First Round
FR - 14 (including 9 of top 11)
SO - 6
JR - 5
SR - 2

Second Round
FR - 4
SO - 4
JR - 7
SR - 9

The number of non-freshmen was pretty much evenly distributed between sophomores, juniors and seniors. But there were six seniors among the last 10 drafted.
