Bendu Yeaney suffered an Achilles tendon rupture:
Indiana has confirmed sophomore Bendu Yeaney ruptured her Achilles tendon during the Hoosiers’ second round NCAA tournament contest at Oregon last Sunday.

IU also said Yeaney underwent successful surgery Friday afternoon and will begin rehab.

“We were all devastated when Bendu went down in the NCAA Tournament game and feel for her through this time,” IU coach Teri Moren said in a statement. “Today, she took the first steps in the recovery process with a successful surgery. We are looking forward to getting her healthy and for her return next season.”

This wasn’t Yeaney’s first setback with an Achilles. The 5-foot-10 guard first injured the tendon in the preseason but only missed the exhibition against Northwood. Throughout the season, Moren cited Achilles soreness as a lingering issue for Yeaney, just like Jaelynn Penn’s nagging ankle injury.

Despite the ailment, the Portland, Ore., native solidified her status as the Hoosiers’ go-to defender in 2018-19, fully utilizing her natural athleticism, length, and leaping ability. Moren’s biggest gripe with the Big Ten’s conference honors was Yeaney’s omission from the all-defensive team.

Indiana added 6'5" post player, Hannah Noveroske, to the roster. Noveroske previously committed to Xavier but reopened her recruitment following the coaching change.

Indiana native Hannah Noveroske has signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Hoosiers next season.

"We are thrilled to be adding Hannah to our roster for the upcoming season," IU head cocah Teri Moren said. "She provides depth down low for us and is a very accomplished in-state player. We are looking forward to having her join our incoming freshman class that is loaded with talent."

A 2019 Indiana All-Star, The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 21.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a senior at Michigan City (Ind.) High School for head coach Mike Megyese where she led them to a 20-5 record. She is the team's all-time leading scorer with 1,790 points and is a two-time Times of Northwest Indiana Athlete of the Year for Porter/LaPorte Counties. Noveroske is a four-time all-conference selection, a 2018-19 IBCA Supreme 15 All-State honoree and placed on the All-USA Girls Basketball First Team.

In her junior season, she averaged 20.6 points and 15.7 rebounds per game to go along with 6.9 blocks per contest. As a sophomore, Noveroske averaged 18.6 points and 13.2 rebounds per game and is an accomplished volleyball player who earned all-state honors in 2018. She helped her team win sectional titles in volleyball in 2017 and 2018. Noveroske played AAU the Indy Gym Rats.

The Hoosiers added Notre Dame transfer, Danielle Patterson to their roster. Patterson will sit out this season.

Indiana Women's Basketball head coach Teri Moren has announced that Danielle Patterson has joined the program. Patterson, a sophomore transfer from Notre Dame, will sit out the 2019-20 season and will have two years of eligibility.

"I am very happy Danielle chose to continue her collegiate career at Indiana," Moren said. "She is a high-caliber player who has great versatility and has the ability to score inside and out."

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native was a 2017 McDonald's All-American and 2017 Jordan Brand Classic All-American out of The Mary Louis Academy. Patterson, a 6-foot-2 forward was ranked as the No. 5 small forward in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz. In her two seasons at Notre Dame, she appeared in 66 games and averaged 11.2 minutes per outing.

Patterson participated in the U17 Team USA Trials during her junior year where she averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists per game leading The Mary Louis Academy to an 18-8 record and the Brooklyn/Queens semifinals. She played AAU with the Philadelphia Belles.

Seems like the Hoosiers are establishing a bit of a pipeline from in-state rival Notre Dame. I recall that Patberg transferred from Notre Dame also.

The three Hoosier recruits playing for Indiana in the annual Indiana/Kentucky All Star Game, Jorie Allen (Jenna Allens sister), Shaila Beeler and Hannah Noveroske, had good outings.

Jorie Allen, recent Bedford North Lawrence High School graduate and future IU player, nodded and headed into the Indiana All-Star locker room.

Friday night at Bellarmine was the first of a two-game series between the Indiana All-Stars and Kentucky All-Stars — the second was Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Indiana and Kentucky split the pair of games — Kentucky won 79-74 at Bellarmine, and Indiana won 76-71 in OT at Bankers — and Allen scored a combined 30 points in both games. She did her thing.
...
Allen is set to move to Bloomington to start working out with the team on June 12, but she isn’t going alone. Two of her Indiana All-Star teammates are coming with her — Shaila Beeler and Hannah Noveroske.

Beeler is from Warren Central High School and is rated as the No. 19 recruit by ProspectsNation and a three-star recruit from ESPN Hoopgurlz. She helped lead Warren Central to its first ever state championship in 2018, averaging 15.2 points, three rebounds and six assists per game.

In the game at Bellarmine, Beeler scored eight points and was a true point guard on the floor. She also played a big role in the overtime victory on Saturday. What Beeler lacks in height, she makes up for in strength and aggression, making her a nice fit in Moren’s system.

Noveroske was initially planning to go to Xavier University, but once Xavier’s head coach stepped down, she got a call from Moren and decided to commit to IU.

The 6-foot-5-inch center averaged 21.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in her senior season at Michigan City High School. She is also the all-time leading scorer at Michigan City with 1,790 points.

This weekend, Noveroske played a big role in the Indiana All-Stars' success, scoring eight points Friday and 18 Saturday.

More Patberg. Ali Patberg gets a sixth year.

IU women's basketball Head Coach Teri Moren brought up the possibility of her soon-to-be senior guard, Ali Patberg, receiving a sixth year of eligibility after the season concluded.

"We're trying," Moren said April 16. "We are planning on it, but that's not to say it's guaranteed."

Friday morning, the program announced Patberg was granted that sixth year from the NCAA. She will now have two years of eligibility left and can play with the program through the 2020-21 season.

Patberg transferred from University of Notre Dame in 2017. She had to redshirt her freshman year with the Fighting Irish after tearing her ACL in 2015-16. She then played in 22 games her sophomore season. Patberg sat out the 2017-18 season with the Hoosiers due to NCAA transfer rules.
...
Patberg was listed as a junior last season with IU, but with her sixth year of eligibility granted, she will be listed as a junior again for this upcoming season.

The full schedule has not yet been released for next season, but IU knows some of its nonconference opponents, including the likes of University of South Carolina, Baylor University, Washington State University and University of Miami.

Some Hoosier updates:

Just over six months ago, Bendu Yeaney ruptured her Achilles in Indiana’s second-round NCAA Tournament loss to Oregon.

On Saturday, she came onto the stage at Indiana’s annual Hoosier Hysteria, dancing to ‘Ballin’ by Mustard and Roddy Ricch.

Yeaney is still working to come back from injury before she’s completely cleared for competition. But if Saturday was any indication, Yeaney, along with Alexis Johnson and Chanel Wilson, two other players recovering from injury, are well on the way to making an immediate impact for what could be IU coach Teri Moren’s best Hoosier squad yet.

Hoosiers go big:
One of the Hoosiers’ biggest struggles last year was rebounding, especially keeping opposing teams off the offensive glass.

What did they do to address that?

IU went out and added a trio of freshmen in Arielle Wisne, Mackenzie Holmes and Hannah Noveroske, all of whom stand 6’3” or taller. It’s part of the foundation that Moren is trying to build and maintain.
