per the Detroit Free Press:

It really shouldn’t be like this. But it is.

Game 24 of the longest Big Ten season in history for Michigan State and Minnesota will feature two teams who are surging at the right time.

Neither anticipates the other to play like they did in the first meeting. And both see the plusses and minuses of facing a conference opponent again in the NCAA tournament.

And the stark reality of what Saturday’s second-round matchup means.

“The only downside,” MSU sophomore Xavier Tillman surmised, “is somebody has gotta go by Saturday.”

After 20 regular season games and three apiece in last week’s conference tournament, the No. 2 seed Spartans and 10th-seeded Gophers now arrive at a moment of finality in the East Region.

Winner advances to the Sweet 16 in Washington D.C. — and potentially yet another Big Ten opponent there, should 6-seed Maryland get by No. 3 seed LSU.
