It sounds like he plays OT in high school. I'm not sure if the staff is projecting him at Guard or Tackle.

Nice frame, looks like another one due for a rating adjustment and uptick in recruiting activity as the year rolls on. This has to be a little upsetting for the stargazers in the mean time.

Keep beefing up both lines, the key to winning the big ten.

Solely based on his highlight clip... But this kid looks to be more than just a big hog out there owning undersized high school opponents.

This kid looks to be a nasty blocker who plays with a good pad level and often is driving opponents into the ground ten yards down field.

Gophers football snags three-star offensive lineman commitment

The Gophers added a fifth member to their 2020 recruiting class late Wednesday evening. Offensive lineman Casey Collier out of Mont Belvieu, Texas, shared his commitment on Twitter.

The 6-6, 300-pound tackle out of Barbers Hill High School is the first O-lineman in the 2020 group. He is a three-star recruit.

Low, mid, or high 3-Star?

looks like a low 3-star at 0.81 for 24/7 composite. I think the cutoff for 3 star is 0.8. He's a 2-star on Rivals.

I trust the coaches. They took him early. They want him.

I especially trust coaches more on evaluating offensive lineman then I do the recruiting sites because outside of the sure fire can't miss guys it is really tough to get a good read on a high school lineman just by watching film.

Not a great offer list at the moment, but clearly the staff saw something in him that they liked.

Yeah. I am not saying I don't trust them. Just stating what the recruiting sites have so far.

Is he the first Rivals 2-star that Fleck has ever offered or have there been others? (Other than specialists)

I remember saying the same thing about Isaac Hayes back in 2012. I guess one just never knows...

I think we all were excited about Hayes potential.

Both of his parent were college athletes and his sister plays for USA Basketball. Good enough for me.

Williamson was a two star for quite a while I believe.

Isaac Hayes moved extremely well for an interior lineman. I don't mean this in a way to rip on Isaac but he didn't love football and working out. He is a really smart person and graduated with a degree in engineering. However, he wasn't one of those guys that loved football (IMO).

Very true. IMO

Big kid, plays to the whistle, shows a bit of a mean streak, I like it. Welcome aboard!

Talking comparisons, one can never really measure a kid’s love of football. But I will say Collier appears to be more aggressive and his team actually ran behind him more in that highlight film than one of the big local 2019 recruits in his MSHSL prep bowl championship games from this past year.

However many stars he has or not, guard or tackle, I hope he stays in the boat. He appears to be a good fit in Callahan’s aggressive play through the whistle O-line group.

Much potential with this gentleman! Welcome!

P.J. Fleck’s goal of brining big-bodied offensive lineman to Minneapolis continues to pay off.

On Wednesday, the Gophers received a commitment from Casey Collier, a three-star offensive tackle out of Mont Belvieu, Texas. Collier becomes the fifth player in the 2020 class to make a verbal pledge to Minnesota.

Collier made his announcement via Twitter on Wednesday night.

“First, I want to thank God for everything. I wouldn’t be in the place I am without Him,” Collier wrote. “I want to thank my family for pushing me, believing in me, and loving me. Thanks to all my trainers and coaches for pushing me to become better every day. With that being said, I commit to the University of Minnesota!”

Collier is a 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle who had received five other offers in addition to Minnesota. He chose the Gophers over Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, North Texas and Tulane.

During his time in Minneapolis, Fleck has looked to add size to the offensive line, a key to being successful in the B1G. So far, he’s succeeded in building that type of unit, and it continues to show on the recruiting trail.

Collier is the first offensive lineman to commit to Minnesota in the 2020 class. The Gophers currently rank 24th nationally and seventh in the B1G in this recruiting cycle.

That's why coaches evals on these guys mean so much more than scouting sites. Coaches talk to teachers, HS coaches and families about these kids. HS coaches are incentivized to be honest with college coaches for the sake of future prospects but that's really where you can start projecting guys. You can find out if they've been serious in the weight room or maybe if they just started getting serious. Who brings it in practice and just generally get a feel for who really wants it since college ball is a grind. I went to HS with a guy that was getting letters (not offers) from all over the country as a freshman. He was an OL and was about 6'5" 260 already. But he never showed up in the weight room, never really put any effort into football at all in the offseason. Nice guy, good guy, but he played FB because he was big, not because he loved it. He got hurt and slacked on his recovery and never fully regained motion in his knee but even before that he'd lost a starting spot for a little bit. Dude ended up going to culinary school then playing semi pro ball for some reason lol
