Assuming 36 bids for major conferences, here are the teams that would be in or out.

31 teams are in on both RPI and NET:

Virginia
Duke
Tennessee
Kentucky
North Carolina
Michigan State
Michigan
Texas Tech
Virginia Tech
Purdue
LSU
Florida State
Wisconsin
Auburn
Mississippi State
Kansas
Iowa State
Louisville
Kansas State
Villanova
Maryland
Marquette
Florida
Clemson
Oklahoma
Baylor
Syracuse
Iowa
Washington
Oregon
TCU

Teams with good enough NET, but bad RPI:

North Carolina State
Ole Miss
Texas
Nebraska
Penn State

Team with good enough RPI, but bad NET:
Creighton
Seton Hall
Alabama
Minnesota
Arizona State

I'm surprised there is so much overlap.

If you look at the entire season and ignore trends, Penn State is a bad team that shouldn't be anywhere near the tournament. It's interesting that NET can align fairly well with RPI for the most part but be so far off with Penn State.

I hope they decide to take a second look at NET after the season and figure out if there's a way to have it properly rank teams like Penn State. If not, NET has very limited uses.

With the 68 teams I have projected, only 24 teams have an RPI and NET within 5 spots of each other.

15 of those are seeded 1-5 (top 20 spots) so the margin for difference on those should be minimal.

On seeds 6-16, the difference in rankings averages about a 19 spot difference.

Rank by SOS and there are a bunch in the top 40 whose seed you would question as well.
