    Default Socialism

“Socialism is a scareword they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called farm price supports. Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

    HARRY S. TRUMAN, speech, Oct. 10, 1952”

"A society that chooses between capitalism and socialism
does not choose between two social systems; it chooses
between social cooperation and the disintegration of society.
Socialism: is not an alternative to capitalism; it is an alternative
to any system under which men can live as human beings."

Sure, socialism in its extreme form is destructive. But come clean and admit what the extreme opposite of socialism is: evolution. Survival of the fittest. Leaving the weak behind to die while the strong (or lucky) go on. That's just as evil.

Absolutely great post TG. AOC annoys the hell out of me but there is a place (at least in the society I want to live in) for some type of governmental involvement in the welfare of its people.

That's what you think would happen, yet it is not what has happened. In fact it's just the opposite. Socialists practice eugenics, you won't find a society more caring for the poor and weak as a free society.

I always try to avoid soft vague language that conceals my intent.

Nahh you avoid pragmatic, sensible language that you are unable to understand.

The point, which has thus far eluded everyone, was not to advocate for socialism.

It was to note that the word’s use today as a conservative dogwhistle, is exactly unchanged from how it was used in 1952.

Conservative mental (and probably physical, in the south) inbreeding has taught generation after generation to live in fear of and hate government, for no reason.

It's not a dogwhistle. Truman apparently felt that socialism helps the people. That is a false statement. If you don't want to advocate for socialism, then don't advocate for socialism. Advocate for capitalism. Most people don't really understand either concept.

To use your example, an airline certainly has quite a bit to lose if they were to have a poor safety record relative to its competition.

You also neglect to mention that flying is still a choice. Nobody "puts" you on an airline.
