Teams that will not play in WNIT.
Georgia: Q. Will you consider a bid in the WNIT or not?
JONI TAYLOR:
I knew you were going to ask me that question. We will not. The NIT is a great tournament. There's a lot of great teams that play in it.

Again, you look at Georgia basketball, what we've done, what Coach Landers did, former players did, what we want to do. We come to Georgia to play in the NCAA tournament. So we will not take a bid to the NIT if given one.

Utah: (Because of injury they are down to seven players and need the rest).

Georgia Tech: (Ongoing mystery involving Head Coach and former Purdue standout, Machelle Joseph, being placed on leave, etc. and etc.)

I believe I read on Twitter that Purdue also has said no WNIT for them.

A shot to play or win it, you mean? If they want to play in it, they're in, probably hosting (depending on availability of the Barn).

I dont follow the womens game much outside of watching the gophers if they are on TV or listening on the radio if I'm driving somewhere, so I was asking if we'd make it. Didnt even realize there was a chance we would refuse.

It’d be kind of presumptuous of a first year coach to turn down any invite. That’s something your long-timer coaches do. In the last postgame, it sounded like whatever comes their way is what they’re doing.

Looks like they broadcast the WNIT championship on CBS Sports Network.

The 64-team field will be determined by late that evening, after the announcement of the Women’s NCAA Tournament field. All games are played at host schools; here’s a look at the WNIT schedule:
Selection – Monday, March 18.
Round 1 – March 20-22.
Round 2 – March 23-26.
Round 3 – March 27-29.
Round 4 – March 30-31.
Semifinals – April 3-4.
Championship – Saturday, April 6, 3 p.m. ET
The championship game will be televised on CBS Sports Network, featuring Brett Dolan on the play-by-play call along with analyst Megan Perry.

A quick look at the boy's tournament brackets that are out there so far make it appear that the 22nd is the likely day for a first WNIT game here. Boys games at the Barn on the 20th and 21st so far from what I can see.

Heard Mark Coyle on WCCO this morning. Essentially he said that the Gophers could host at least the first 3 dates and wouldn't have any real conflicts until the time of the Final Four.

Friday 22nd would work best for Gopher fans.

The Minnesota women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the 22nd annual Women's National Invitation Tournament and will host Northern Iowa Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now for Minnesota women's basketball season ticket holders at GopherSports.com. Gopher Score members can begin buying tickets Tuesday at noon. Season ticket holders and Gopher Score members will need to sign in to be able to purchase via the presale.

Sales for the general public will start at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone at 612-624-8080 or in person from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the 3M Arena at Mariucci Ticket Office

In the Minnesota region, Arkansas and TCU are decent competition.

The easiest region seems to be the lower left one. A hobbled USF or VT might come out of that one.

I’d rate the upper right region as the toughest. WVU, NW, OSU, plus some better MAC teams.

In the lower left region, I like AZ mostly. Probably second easiest region, imo.

Press Release from the University of Minnesota about WNIT!

I'm a season ticket holder, but I can't get in to buy tickets.

I just ordered my tickets. I suspect Whytetale tried just a bit too early last night and the site was not yet ready?

And, maybe the WNIT likes irony (like the NCAA pitting the men against Louisville). Long time fans may recall that we beat UNI on March 25, 2012 to win that much maligned WBI Tournament during the Borton era. We faced them two more times after that in the non-conference seasons in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. That's the last time we have played them. We are 10-0 all time versus UNI.
