Interesting spin. Media rights primarily means the B1G television deals which have very little to do with the U individually. If the overall revenue went up by $8.5MM but media rights were up by $17.5MM then the U generated $9MM LESS revenue than the prior year.
 

Would be interesting to see a detailed breakdown. i wonder how much of the drop is due to lower ticket sales for the big three men's sports - FB, Basketball and hockey.

But, from some of the comments coming out of Coyle and others, I'm not sure the powers-that-be care about declining attendance as long as the media money spigot keeps flowing. they give attendance lip service, but they don't really do anything about it because they seem to believe they don't need to - that the media $ will bail them out. if that money every slows down or goes backwards, look out.

Everything is semantics, of course, but money from media deals absolutely should be counted in the revenue a school’s athletics dept generates.
