2019 Big Ten Tournament

Looks to me like Tsipsis is making some progress with the Badgers. But, it's not going to be a quick turnaround. How long will PSU hang with Washington as the coach. That program is a shell of what it used to be under the previous coach.

Takeaways

At some point in the second half, you had to take a moment to appreciate Teniya Page. She was hampered by injuries these past two seasons and was clearly not her explosive self in this outing, but she put together a run down the stretch that exemplified the type of stud she’s been for the Lady Lions over the years — draining threes, getting to the foul line, and leaving everything on the floor.

The whole team dealt with injuries throughout the season. Amari Carter missed a few games earlier in the year, Alisia Smith never returned after an injury later in the season, and Page had her issues. Kamaria McDaniel going off for concussion protocol in the third qaurter, even though she did return later, gave you the feeling of the type of luck Penn State had this year.

Is this Coquese Washington’s last game as the head coach of the Lady Lions? Her contract expires after this year and five years without making the NCAA Tournament is quite a bad run for a team that’s been at the top of the Big Ten this decade.

Purdue beats Illinois 72-60 to move on to a second round game against Nebraska.

In the second round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, the Cats will face Michigan State (19-10, 9-9). In December, NU upset the Spartans when they were the 15th ranked team in the NCAA. Kunaiyi-Akpanah finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in that game, and Pulliam led the team with 18 points.

But in that game, sophomore guard Jordan Hamilton played 30 minutes. She’s missed several consecutive games with an undisclosed injury, and in a recent media availability, coach Joe McKeown declined to specify if she’d be available for the Big Ten Tournament. Hamilton has started every game when healthy in her NU career and she averages 9.5 points and 3.3 assists per game this year.

After a strong non-conference slate, Michigan State finished Big Ten play with an identical record to the Cats. The Spartans defeated No. 3 Oregon and No. 16 Iowa before facing NU in January, but since then they’ve lost to Nebraska, a team that will miss the NCAA Tournament.

39-32 MSU over Northwestern at the half

Things not looking good for Northwestern. Down 17 in the 4th.

68-52 MSU final. Their reward is to take on Maryland tomorrow. MSU beat Maryland earlier in the season.

It only took 3 1/2 minutes for OSU to score. 2-0. Slow start for both teams.

OSU only up by 3 at the end of third. Wouldn’t mind seeing them get knocked out, even though they’re on the opposite side of the bracket.

All of a sudden WI can't miss. Quite the turnaround. 10 point lead for WI with 4 minutes to go. Hard to believe.

Wisconsin up by 10 with 4 minutes left.

Good for Bucky. Not a Badgers fan, but dislike OSU more. A #13 seed advancing to the quarterfinals...shows the parity in the BIG.

Apparently the first time B1G tournament history that a 13 seed has won, and now they have won 2 in a row.

Cinderella is still going. Up 29-28 over MI at half. But if MI plays just a little better, the clock will strike midnight.

At the half Wisconsin leads Michigan 29-28. Kim Barnes Arico can see an NCAA bid drifting away.

Yes, the slipper is still on for Cinderella. Do they have it in the tank for an OT win?

Howard fouls out. And now the clock has run out for Cinderella. MI ahead 71-65, 13 seconds left. MI at the FT line.

Gutty and gritty effort by a well-coached Badger team that played extremely well together in all three games. Michigan was yet another team that had beaten the Badgers twice during the regular season. Wisconsin had already disposed of two teams that had beaten them twice and was looking for the trifecta before just falling short. Marsha Howard is a very good player, but sometimes it seems like she would prefer to be wearing a black and white striped jersey instead of a basketball jersey. Badgers lose Howard and Karlis now, but the future is looking much better than it ever did under Kelsey.

Michigan 40-37 over Maryland at the half. Lots of turnovers for MD.

Ugh so over Maryland, like to see to see a different team win the tournament. Good fight by the Wolverines like to think other B1G teams gaining ground but Maryland has a lot of young pieces should remain a force for a long time.

So it is Maryland vs. Iowa. I guess I will pull for IA as hard as it is to do, but MD makes it easier to do. So the final must not be on BTN tomorrow? Sounded like BTN was wrapping up its coverage of the tournament.

I believe Big 10 Wrestling takes over on Sunday.
