There was some housekeeping for Michigan to take care of while local media was assembled at Crisler Center to preview Thursday's game against Minnesota: the scheduling of a press conference in advance of Sunday's game against Michigan State.

John Beilein made it clear that was the only reason he was discussing the Spartans. He reiterated that when he was asked about the 1989 team reunion that will take place on Sunday.

"We're not talking about Michigan State," he said, before talking about the upcoming reunion.

It's been one game at time for the Wolverines all season, and that's not changing now.

"Our focus has been 100 percent on Minnesota," Beilein said.

Given the recent history between Michigan and the Golden Gophers, that's a wise approach.

Michigan won at the buzzer in Ann Arbor on Jan. 22. The lone meeting last season went to overtime. Two years ago, a Big Ten Tournament matchup was decided in the final minute; the regular-season meeting went to overtime. Not since 2014 has a game between these two teams been decided by double digits.

The Wolverines get Michigan State after that, on Sunday, but the string of close calls against the Gophers -- and the fact that Michigan controls its own destiny for a Big Ten title -- will keep Michigan focused.

"I know it's (a) very important (game) for Minnesota," Beilein said. "It's just as important for us. We've got a great battle of about five or six teams that have a chance to win the Big Ten regular season championship, get one of the four byes in the Big Ten Tournament -- so there's a lot at stake right now in all these games."

Go Gophers!!

No team will ever catch a Beilein-coached team sleeping, especially this late in the season. No surprise here.
