So I'm heading down with some friends to watch John Marshall play tonight, and the rumor is that Coach K will be in attendance. Earlier this year I saw Roy Williams at one of their games, but Coach K just seems on a different level. If there was a Mount Rushmore of college basketball coaches, who would be on it? I would say Wooden, Coach K, Dean Smith and maybe Bobby Knight or Adolph Rupp? Just wondering what others opinions are...to break up the Gopher talk.

In terms of contemporary coaches, I think Pitino will be underappreciated because he got caught with scandals even though all the Blue Bloods are dirty to an extent.

I also think Calhoun winning 3 titles at UCONN is pretty crazy considering the program was nothing before him and has really struggled since outside of the title with Calhoun's players under Ollie.

Not saying these guys belong on the Rushmore, but at least need to be discussed.

Lots of great other coaches. Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino, John Calipari. But I don't think they crack the top four.

Wooden
K
Rupp
Smith

Active contenders: Williams, Izzo, Boeheim, Wright, Calipari

George Washington - Wooden
Thomas Jefferson - Larry Brown (For his pants in the 70's alone)
Abraham Lincoln - Coach K
Teddy - Bobby Knight

DO NOT PUT Dean Smith up there for any reason! Nobody did less with more in basketball history! Only won what? 2 titles with the McDonald's all-American team every year! Terrible coach.

I assume we're sticking to just D1 mens...if not, my list changes quickly.

Wooden, Coach K (I despise him though), Bobby Knight, Jim Calhoun.

Some other random names: Rick Pitino (they all have cheated so he is fine in my book), Jim Boeheim, Lute Olson, Jerry Tarkanian.

John Calipari is high on my list. Always impressed with how his teams defend and work, despite being full of 5 stars. Not always easy to get those kids to put in the work and he has a very good rate of success with them working hard.

Rupp? The Ty Cobb of college basketball coaches? No, he would probably still insist on an all-white lineup!

Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. What are ya gonna do?

The bib overalls he wore back in the ABA days were top notch.
