I still support Pitino!

There was basically a whole thread about identity

If you haven't figured it out, "built" has a top 3. Defense. Indentity. And Wisc/UVA. I appreciate his insight, but you have to know what's coming along with it.

In 6 years, we have only had 1 team with an identity and a leader: 2016/17 and Akeem.

The other years have been this nebulous hazy fog of talent being thrown down the drain.

Time to hot restart

Mason was a leader. But yeah, I agree in general about leaders. But this whole "identity" thing is weird to me. What is MSU's identity? Just more talent than the rest of the BIG? Not saying Izzo isn't a great coach, but it helps to continually have the top talent in a league.

Nationally MSU is known for toughness, defensive prowess and transition from rebounds to points.

Ah, ok. Still confused why you need an identity. I'd rather be able to adapt to your roster. Michigan has already changed their identity this year. Their D is awesome. Never has been their key to victory.

Program identity. Michigan has had the identity of precision offense. Always looking to improve JB went out and hired a defensive specialist but he never sucked at D and low turnovers, good shots. Every coach worth his salt talks about establishing a identity. I am confused that your confused. They talk about it every day, they teach it in their clinics.

I appreciate your take on stuff. I don't agree with you on this, so I'll stop here.

What’s NEBRASKA’s identity? Or Northwestern ‘s? Underperforming teams aren’t always lacking an identity. Do you really think Miles, Collins and Pitino don’t have game plans, ways they want things done or things they emphasize? Perhaps the NE, NW and MN players just aren’t as talented as the top teams, or they don’t execute the game plan effectively so it looks like no “identity” because of the losing streaks.

Get ready to bang head against wall....

Or they just are not great coaches. If they lack good players and execute poorly that is on coaches.

Close the door on this thread eh? Queue all the new coach speculative threads

This is a bunch of crap.
"Identity"

I don’t know what will happen.

Coyle has been quick to make coaching decisions and seems to have a person in mind for that job. I’d guess he has more than one name on his list. That was Teague’s issue. Once Smart said no he got desperate. I doubt Flip was really ever serious about it. So we got Pitino. And here we are, 2,152 days later, without a whole lot to show for it.

Coyle’s hires so far:
PJ Fleck
Lindsay Whalen
Bob Motzko
Brandon Eggum
Jamie Traschel

I think this is the complete list. Hard to remember.

I am taking a different approach. Someone tell me what Richard strengths are??
Player development?
Player communication?
Putting players in a spot to succeed?
Good offensive mind?
Good defensive mind?
Sets plays?
End of game situations?
Bench management?
Being strong enough not to let parents dictate lineups?
Recruiting?
Fundamentals?

So many F’s on this list!!! What is his strength?

I hear ya but something just doesn't fit, how was he successful with Tubby's players, does it have something to do with player development and fundamentals, did Tubby instill something that Richard was able to capitalize on, something is missing that is basic to everything and it becomes a house of cards without it. It is obvious it isn't going to get any better.

How successful was he with Tubby's players? I thought the squad including two Hollins as a senior and junior should have been a tournament team, instead they ended up in the NIT.
