Fake Recruit Catfishes Recruiting Websites

Then how come the schools that are consistently the best almost always have the highest rated classes?

Splitting hairs but Clemson hasn’t had the highest rated classes and they’ve won national championships in 2016 and 2018 (IIRC out of top 10 in 2016 and fringe in 2018). I realize you said almost but there wasn’t a legitimate mechanism to choose a champion until recently and even that is up for debate. How often does the higher recruit-rated team win again?

I would say even having a “default rating” looks bad.

Agree. If they really feel the need, default should be one or two stars.

Embarrassing for Rivals, and calls into question how they actually rank players.

A few high school students got the best of a few college football recruiting websites recently, after creating a fake prospect in an attempt to fool everyone.

Rivals.com picked up on the story and listed Carrienger as a three-star prospect. Another recruiting site, 247Sports, listed him in its composite rankings but did not provide its own evaluation of the player.

not the first nor the last time this has/will happen.

I’d go with “not rated yet” to be, well, legitimate.
