Chicago Tribune went in-depth on Hunter Johnson, one of the top ranked QBs out of high school who played for Clemson behind Bryant in 2017 and transferred to Northwestern last year after Lawrence got the starting job.

Big Ten sched should have interesting QBs...the Nebraska kid is dynamic, Stanley is very solid and experienced, Wisconsin brings back Hornibrook and Coan and adds one of top-ranked high school QBs (son of a former Gopher), Illini bring in a dynamic recruit from St. Louis, Sindelar is solid and has some experience, Maryland added a stud recruit out of New Orleans on late signing day, good to see McSorley gone but Tommy Stevens looks good and Franklin added two top ten duel threat recruits.

Fitz hit a home run landing this kid. Big upgrade from Thorson.

This is the sort of analysis that got the non-existent kid 3* on Rivals. Clayton Thorson is the 4th leading passer all time in the Big Ten and took them to a 10 win season one year and won the West in another. Just because Clemson wanted him doesn't mean he's going to be a lot better than their 4 year starter they won a ton with.

Thorson's career is a little bit like Leidner's - started out promising but then kind of flatlined or even regressed a little. Either way, both had long and decent Big Ten careers.

Northwestern has won with defense and an effective running game.

Thorson made the throws he had to in a lot of games though (including vs Gophers this past fall). He also had a good offensive line and defense.
