Thomas Friedman - Trump’s Going to Get Re-elected, Isn’t He?

Dear Democrats: This is not complicated! Just nominate a decent, sane person, one committed to reunifying the country and creating more good jobs, a person who can gain the support of the independents, moderate Republicans and suburban women who abandoned Donald Trump in the midterms and thus swung the House of Representatives to the Democrats and could do the same for the presidency. And that candidate can win!

But please, spare me the revolution! It can wait. Win the presidency, hold the House and narrow the spread in the Senate, and a lot of good things still can be accomplished. “No,” you say, “the left wants a revolution now!” O.K., I’ll give the left a revolution now: four more years of Donald Trump.

    That will be a revolution.

It will be an overthrow of all the norms, values, rules and institutions that we cherish, that made us who we are and that have united us in this common project called the United States of America.

If the fear of that doesn’t motivate the Democratic Party’s base, then shame on those people. Not all elections are equal. Some elections are a vote for great changes — like the Great Society. Others are a vote to save the country. This election is the latter.

That doesn’t mean a Democratic candidate should stand for nothing, just keep it simple: Focus on building national unity and good jobs.

This is 100% our Flight 93 election.

Cons said it was theirs in 2016. Now it’s ours.

They want socialism and minorities or they are not going to show up. Joe Biden is not going to bring them out. On the other hand a fair share of standard Dems who still love our country are going to look at their pocket books and the flag pole in their yard and say no to socialism and sit it out if a hard lefty is nominated...thinking 4 more years of the Trump economy is better than the anti-American, Antifa loving, race baiting, open borders, gender confused crowd that is leading the party.
So much of this is either a lie or a fantasy. Biden is leading. 3 of the 5 top candidates are pretty centrist. And you're knocking them for putting electability high on the list while saying they want a radical. Which is it?

Very much a thing. KGF/Fox News have classified them as a terrorist organization! I'm going to have to add them to the list of things to check under the bed for every night.

Here’s how CNN portrays Antifa in this short article and video:

It’s pretty tame description, some might say a whitewash. They admit to destroying public and private property b/c they don’t see that as violence. Funny, b/c most of the left keeps telling us that “words can be violence”, but I digress. Anyway, they claim the use violence only as “self-defense”.

Tell that to gay, conservative journalist Andy Ngo:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8WzMZxT-41k

Obviously, Andy was in the attack position with his arms held to cover his eyes.

Last week, one of its members attacked the Tacoma US Immigration offices with Molotov cocktails and a semi-automatic rifle. Refusing to put down his weapon, the police took him down for good.

They’re really just a bunch of fun guys and gals out to protest against fascism...and crack a few skulls if someone crosses their path.
You seem to have a thing for gay conservatives. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Are they better somehow?

He's not wrong. But Bernie's also not winning.

Of course. But we still need their votes. Or, 2016 all over.

So i saw it as a piece trying to get their minds right for the inevitable decision: vote for the D candidate, all else you’re choosing 4 more years of Trump.

it's the old "hold your nose and vote" theory.

in 2016, there were traditional Republicans who held their noses and voted for Trump because they put the party over any personal dislike for the candidate.

Some Bernie bros may have done the same thing for Hillary, but others went the 3rd-party route.

in 2020, it could be that both major parties will be walking the same tightrope - trying to convince voters to support party over candidate. and each will use fear as a motivator. Dems - "if you don't vote for (the nominee), Trump will get re-elected." Repubs - "if you don't vote for Trump (nameless Democrat) will get elected." this will be the clothespin election - count the number of voters with a clothespin over their noses as they vote for a candidate whom they don't really like.

There are no centrists in the Democrat list. Everyone has been pulled far left. Add up the votes for hard left candidates and they are more than the most moderate of the lefties. The hard left is ruling the party. Biden may yet get the nomination because the field is so brutally bad, but if he does- Dem turnout will be bad. He has been losing ground since he announced. It doesn't help him that he is so daft that he repeated Obama's Obamacare lie of the year the other day. It is mostly unspoken (although Harris went there) but most Dems just think of Biden as an old white racist. Bernie is viewed more softly because he is full on socialism AOC style.
