I'm not at all bothered by Biden's use of this banal phrase. I am bothered that he promised to cure cancer. That would be the kind of boast that howeda would create a new thread for about Trump. But it's now Trump's fault that Biden says stuff like that. Or when he said Republicans want to put blacks in chains. That's a good one too. Different rules for different parties, no bigs.

Yep, there are so many things wrong with his "we will cure cancer" statements I don't even know where to begin. I understand his son died from cancer and it would have been reasonable for him to promise to do more to advance research and find cures but to say "we'll cure cancer" is just ridiculous.

+1. Certainly over-the-top. Better treatments or curing one specific cancer? OK. As a broad statement? No.

I'm sorry but even promising to cure one specific type of cancer isn't a promise that should be made during a campaign.

No? Not good enough, you must vow to never vote for Biden. And then, we'll all just disbelieve you anyway and rail against you claiming we know you really voted for him. Lick lick bootlicker. How can you defend Biden like this? Making America America Again! MAAA!!

Did he state it as a goal or a promise? If the later, then yes, that was foolish.

Biden is Biden. We know who he is. Most of the other Dem candidates have much less public exposure/experience.

There are no perfect candidates. Everyone has flaws and weaknesses.

From my point of view, the only thing that matters is this - do they have a chance to win? I continue to maintain that the 2020 Presidential election will be decided by moderates, independents and undecided voters in the Midwest battleground states. So, from the main Dem candidates, as of today, I think Biden has the best chance to do well with those voters. This is not about who can win NY or CA - The Dems could nominate Elmer Fudd and carry NY or CA. (hewwo. I am Elmer Fudd, and I am wunning for pwesident....). It's about who can win the toss-up states and maybe bring back some of the traditional Dem voters who flipped to Trump in 2016.

I just don't see Bernie, Warren, Harris or any of the progressives doing that well in the Midwest. Klobuchar is not going to be able to get her poll numbers up to a point where she can lead a national campaign. Buttigieg has potential, but I don't think the US is ready for an openly gay candidate yet.

So, from where we sit today, I conclude that Biden is the Dems' best bet to do well in the Midwest and potentially win a national election - IF he can keep the gaffes down to a manageable level. he can survive a few gaffes. but too many and he turns from "good old Joe" to "too old Joe."

yeah, he's not perfect. but who is?

I think Klobuchar or Buttigeg would the best bets for winning the Midwest, but I agree that they are both unlikely to win the primary.

So far, polls in Michigan show both Warren and Sanders beating Trump head to head. I'm not sure that would hold after 6 months of "Socialist!" campaigns against them though, especially in Bernie's case. I feel in the end it will probably come down to Biden, Warren/Sanders and maybe Harris and Biden is the safest choice, flawed as he is.

This is the quote I saw: "I promise you if I'm elected president, you're going to see the single most important thing that changes America, we're gonna cure cancer"

Insanely stupid thing to say. Especially as someone who has lost a loved one to cancer recently.

Democrats say they don't want another old, white, rich, male, but Biden is leading with Sanders second.

Biden is continuing to follow the Trump playbook. Crazy to see people loving the over exaggerated lies.

It was completely predictable that Dems were going to try to outtrump trump. And the people like Howie who have been on outrage mode for 3 years are going to be in a very uncomfortable spot rationalizing their choices.
