Hiring an employee, admission to a school, admission to a golf or social club, selecting someone for an internship, electing a politician, granting a mortgage, etc. based on the color of the person's skin is racism. It's what MLK worked & ultimately died, to move us beyond.

MLK died in the hopes that one day representatives would actually be representative of their electorate.

The GOP not being representative of their electorate is racism.

You must listen to republican conventions on the radio, craigy. If you ever see one on a screen, youíll be blinded by the whiteness. Those conventions and your party look nothing like our country.

You didn't answer my question. Why is the party you now love so overwhelmingly white (and old and male)? Clearly they have failed to move beyond it. The Dems Congressional make-up mirrors the general population or is at least 100x closer. If they nominate an unqualified person, that's one thing. If they choose a qualified minority from a field of several good candidates, that's not racism. It's a cheap attempt by the GOP to deflect attention away from their massive demographic problem.

Most minorities and people under 40 see the GOP for what it is. And you can't shame or "gotcha" them into changing their mind. You'll have to actually change what the GOP is about. Do they want to be the party of fiscal conservatism and "personal freedom" or the party of old white men trying desperately to make it 1950 again and keep it that way. I'm afraid that party civil war has already happened and it was a blow out. Your side won. Congrats.

You're one of the only people on the board I literally feel sorry for. You generally don't come off with any malice so I think most just shrug it off but damn, you say some odd stuff.

Ogee, you know I mostly disagree with you, but I have to say, you are generationally impaired and cannot see the world from the point of view of people younger than yourself. And, I can only assume you are older than 40. If you are younger than 40, then, damn, who did you hang with? Granny all day?

So, you find it hard to believe that MLK wanted just and fair elections with a broad coalition of people supporting the best candidate?

On one hand you say that minorities vote monolithically, like blacks for blacks, Hispanics for Hispanics, women for women, Muslims for Muslims, etc. and on the other hand you wonder why Republican political districts are made up of mostly white men and women representatives and Democrats have more diversity. Obviously you know why black districts are made up of mostly black representatives.

The exception is if a minority Republican runs for office. White Republicans will support them, but usually not a significant enough of the minority base will, i.e., John James.

For all your lefty idealism, let give you a bit of news. If you or THE most extreme lefty white dude ran for office in a mostly minority district, you wonít have a chance of winning. People, all people, tend to vote for representatives that may look similarly, think similarly, have experiences similarly or believe in the same principles as them.

The other aspect is political. Who supports your political agenda. Naturally, minorities or groupings of people are going to gravitate to the party that they believe serves their special interests. Whites, being a majority, donít tend to have as much at stake in special interests but in general interests. I tend to think general interests are more important than special ones, but thatís me.

Therefore, the glory of diversity that are you basking yourself in has nothing to do with your political altruism or higher moral standing, and has everything to do with human behavior of all peoples.

There are exceptions, but not nearly enough to break the general rule of human behavior.

So congratulations. You have a diverse Party. They are human.

If minorities and people under 40 like socialism then I donít want them in my party. Itís why I donít want you either Howie.
