Can Gophs recruiting stay in top 40? Iowa moving past Gophers...Indiana next?

Maybe because "support" of a program is support. Using the term "Flecksters" shows you will support the program 100% only if things fit in your tiny paradigm. I just love Gopher football and support it at every turn. It's been in my family since 1924. Its hard sometimes. But its love.

Why?

Because I love Gopher football. As a lifelong fan. Its in my DNA. I didn't grow up in the "more me now" generation. I still believe in compound interest...

Including myself, five people in my immediate family are grads of the U, accounting for seven degrees. There's been someone from that group in attendance at the U in almost every decade stretching back to 1948. I have not missed a single Gophs FB home game in 13 years, an have attended close to 150 Gophs FB games over the last 30 years. Cal Stoll was HC the first game I attended, and I've been in the seats to watch every HC since.

So yeah, I'm about as die-hard a Gopher fan as they come.

The agenda for those who haven't followed it...

1. The Gophers are loaded with talent and experience - translation: PJ is lying about how young we are and we should be winning a ton of games.
2. Team X that is on our schedule lost... (# of players due to injuries, transfers, coaches, etc) - translation: we should be able to beat Fresno because they lost their OC, or Penn St. due to guys leaving.
3. Recruiting rankings are falling - translation: PJ isn't recruiting at the level he should be.
4. Evan Hull, or Kyle Dickson was offered by Fitz or Rutgers - translation: why is PJ letting MN kids get away.

All topics are open for discussion. It becomes trolling when the agenda is obvious and the intent is to subtly? bash the coach/program with every thread. I can easily be proven wrong on this though - just show me swingman threads that discuss some of the following: (1)the Gophers are young and relatively inexperienced; (2) a thread on how our transfers, injuries or coaches that are leaving might hurt us; (3) a thread showing our recruiting rankings improving; (4) commending the staff for getting commitments from in-state threads.

I just wish they let Galt decide what is on here and what is not. A variety of viewpoints is confusing and time consuming.

Boy oh Boy does this post prove the theory that has been often denied that the Flecksters are hypersensitive. Well, at least one is. Just Wow.

Who decides who is and isn't a "Fleckster"?

It’s like porn.
What happened to you having me on ignore? You seemed so proud of that.

The usual gang loves the hypersensitivity angle. Yet any defense of Fleck they swarm and straight to their go to “Fleckster”.

Seems the usual gang are the hypersensitive ones.

You are burying the lead. The problem is that no one in this thread was bashing PJ. So why the need to defend him? Rational people don’t view #40 in team rankings as the divider between good coach / bad coach. I mean seriously, if we don’t consider it hypersensitive to read into a thread about Fresno losing their OC or PSU losing 16 players early as slights against PJ then all sanity has been lost.

It was about swingman’s bit. And yes it is a bit.

The same usual gang went off on the whole hypersensitivity angle once again.

It had nothing to do with defending Fleck but you guys can’t help yourself.

Hypersensitivity. GOD willing, someday there will be a cure.

In this day and age of medical advancement, you'd think there would be a cream or salve or something for that.....

Says the guy who whimpered and left because people were being such meanies to him. Are we looking for our shield again?

I just figured swingman was annoyingly positive about everything- why automatically conclude he’s got an axe to grind against PJ?

Why? Maybe you missed the thread about Penn State losing 16 players early. Pretty obvious stuff.

The agenda for those who haven't followed it...

1. The Gophers are loaded with talent and experience - translation: PJ is lying about how young we are and we should be winning a ton of games. PJ was fibbing about the roster for awhile. He’s started to be more specific so kudos for changing his best
2. Team X that is on our schedule lost... (# of players due to injuries, transfers, coaches, etc) - translation: we should be able to beat Fresno because they lost their OC, or Penn St. due to guys leaving. It does matter what our opponent roster and coaching churn look like - scouting other rosters is Swingmans strong suit
3. Recruiting rankings are falling - translation: PJ isn't recruiting at the level he should be. We are recruiting at a competitive level but is it false this year is technically worse, or not?
4. Evan Hull, or Kyle Dickson was offered by Fitz or Rutgers - translation: why is PJ letting MN kids get away. It’s a worthwhile fan discussion to talk about MN kids offered by P5 programs. It doesn’t mean they’re right for our roster.

I have to comment ... because I used to be really annoyed by swing's posts.

But doggonit ... I've actually come around to them. I don't agree with all of them per se, but he puts in the effort and brings us interesting tidbits that we wouldn't necessarily see otherwise.

Moreover, the by far most important point: no one is forcing you to read any of his posts or threads!!! So just ignore them, if they bother you so much. The board has a great ignore feature, activate it.

Right on! I can't stand when agendas are obvious. You must really hate the guy that started this thread:

Fleckster(definition): a person that supports coach Fleck and the football program. They think PJ is a good coach and appreciate the progress he has made with the football program. They may even like him as a person and his personality doesn't grate on them. They think it's ridiculous that he was named Turkey of the Year, and think the football program is on one of the best trajectories it's been on for a while. They are excited about the future, don't feel the need to criticize him at every turn and think he has achieved a lot during his first two years.

I'll gladly be called a "Fleckster" with this definition.

Look, I'm one of the biggest Fleck fans out there. I probably fall into the "Fleckster" category. But Evan Hull, or the recruiting rankings slipping, or a future opponent having a lot players declare, or a future opponent getting a new OC are relevant topics to Gopher football. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, people are allowed to disagree with Fleck on some issues while still believing the program as a whole is headed the right way.

Of course. But if every post is negative, is that person objective given what's transpired this year?

Okla St just jumped over the Gophs on 247. If my math is correct, Ind has 4 scholarships to give and Ill has 7 according to 247. Can't figure out where NW stands with scholarships...

Of course. But if every post is negative, is that person objective given what's transpired this year?

So what, any post not outwardly glowing of Fleck is negative? That seems to be your definition.

I just want to say I'm the biggest Flekster there is and I will fight anyone who says otherwise....

What is there to be negative about? We just had the best ending to a season in like 50 years. And basically everyone is back next year. Our recruiting class is one of the highest ranked in our history. We had the highest GPA in history. And there are no scandals.

Any Gopher fan still seeing gray clouds needs to have their head examined...

So your short answer is Yes. If not openly glowing, comment is considered negative in your opinion.

I think this entire thread needs to start using Sensodyne toothpaste - to protect against over-sensitivity.

Seriously, I think both sides have a point.

Yes, there are people on this board who enjoy taking shots at Fleck, whether deserved or not.

and Yes, there are people on this board who are hyper-protective of Fleck, and defend him against any perceived slight - whether deserved or not. Those are the "Flecksters" as I understand the term - the self-proclaimed guardians of Fleck's image. As opposed to the "Claeysites" who defend TC's legacy.

and BTW, I googled "Fleckster." there is someone called Fleckster69 on Youtube. He or she seems to post items related to video games. There appear to be some other people who use Fleckster as a nickname. And yes, googling Fleckster did bring up a picture of the Gopher football coach. so it's an official term, as recognized by Google.
