This year is the 150th anniversary of college football and it will be interesting to see what Big Ten marketers, including the Gophers, do to celebrate the milestone. Minnesota had a glorious football history between 1900 and 1970 including seven national championships, with that total still among the best in the country.

The Gophers want to sell more tickets for their high profile sports and yet over the years there are too many scheduling conflicts with Minnesota’s pro teams. Last Sunday the women’s basketball team tipped off at Williams Arena about 30 minutes after the Timberwolves-Lakers game began at Target Center. On the final Sunday in December the men’s team was playing at home the same afternoon as the Vikings and Bears were at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Go Gophers!!

Sure would be cool if they would turn back the clock a bit and have a year at least of no donation surcharges.

A few ideas:

1. Set ticket prices back 150 years ago.
2. Sell season tickets for $150 for the corners of the stadium.
3. Select 150 season ticket holders to receive free season tickets for 2020.
4. Give out $150 vouchers to 150 football attendees at each game to be used for Gopher athletics.

Let's hear some more ideas....

They should offer $15 General Admission single-game tickets to upper deck endzone. Fill the dang place up.

Bring in former Gopher greats, their families, and in some cases living relatives and descendants. Have the Governor proclaim the game day Gopher Football Day.

$1.50 beers?

Roll back the price of admission tickets, beer and concession food to 1966-67 prices to commemorate the 150 years of CFB.

I'm a little as to confused why the Gophers would do anything to celebrate Rutgers and Princeton playing the first college football game 150 years ago. Gopher football didn't start until 13 years later, so this will be the 137th season of Gopher football.

If the Gophers wanted to celebrate 150 years of football, wouldn't they wait until 2032 to celebrate 150 years of GOPHER FOOTBALL???

That said, if they wanted to turn the clocks back and charge 1869 prices, so be it.

On that note, it might not be a 150 year anniversary this year. However, the team is sitting at 695 wins right now and will probably join the 700 club in 2019.

Putting Floyd in the trophy case with the Axe would be a good way to do it.
