Default Northern Wisconsin residents describe the moments they found Jayme Closs

Amazing news yesterday that Jayme Closs was found alive. I can't imagine the horror she's dealt with the last few months, but an incredible development. Let's hope she can heal emotionally and mentally over the coming months and years.

    Per STrib:

Jayme Closs, the 13-year-old girl missing since her parents were shot to death in their Barron, Wis., home three months ago, was found bedraggled and malnourished but alive Thursday after seeking help from neighbors in a remote rural area in northwestern Wisconsin.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald announced late Thursday afternoon that his agency had been notified by the sheriff in Douglas County, two counties to the north, that Jayme had been found there.

According to the Douglas County sheriff, Jayme was found east of the town of Gordon at 4:43 p.m. Thursday, and a suspect was arrested minutes later. She was being examined at a hospital late Thursday night and was to be reunited with family members.

Before dawn Friday in Barron, the Dairy Queen sign was flashing, "Welcome home Jayme. Thank you for bringing her home."

Residents of an area of woods and cabins about 9 miles east of Gordon, which has few year-round residents, described the dramatic moment when Jayme was found. Kristin Kasinskas, a teacher at the nearby Northwood School who lives on S. Eau Claire Acres Circle with her husband, Peter, and children, said that around 4 p.m., a neighbor walking a dog frantically knocked on their door.

Standing with her was a skinny, dirty girl with matted hair, wearing shoes too big for her feet.

“This is Jayme Closs! Call 911!” the neighbor said.

Jayme was quiet, her emotions “pretty flat,” Peter Kasinskas said.

The woman who found Jayme asked that her name not be used, saying she was exhausted and unnerved by the dramatic events of the day. In a phone interview late Thursday, she said that Jayme “came up to me and said she wanted help.”

She said she was pretty sure who the girl was, adding that most everyone who lives in Wisconsin has seen Jayme’s photo on the news or on posters hung up by businesses.

Any doubt the woman had was erased when Jayme gave her name. The two quickly made their way to the Kasinskas home.

In the 20 minutes Jayme was in their home, the couple tried to make her feel more comfortable, they said. They offered her water and food, but she declined both. Kristin introduced Jayme to their new puppy, Penny.

I'm interested in this press conference coming today. Pretty crazy when the story broke last night. Was not expecting this outcome...

Crazy she was just an hour away too. Even if she was found alive, I figured it would be a long ways away.

It seems to rarely be far away. That was the problem with the Jacob Wetterling case too. Bet this guy is an obvious suspect once they release info.

For those who like true crime, I strongly recommend listening to the In The Dark podcast on the Wetterling case, It is tremendous but won't make you feel very confident about policing in Minnesota.

I'm not buying that they both weren't involved yet.

21 year old with no previous criminal record. Really seems weird.

I agree it's not all adding up yet. I don't know if we'll get too much more info until the court case starts or at least until charges are filed. This could make a good dateline though.

I'm with you. He's 21, she's 13. I wouldn't be surprised if these two aren't romantically involved, parents didn't like it, and bam. We've seen that story before. It makes no sense that a 21 year old with no prior history would murder two random adults and spare a 13 year old that could testify against him. I hope I'm wrong, but just a random theory.

I believe they would have known if there had been any social media contact between the two. It's an interesting (and tragic) case.

thats a good point. But there's ways of hiding it.

But they might have met when he visited the area, they said he had ties to the area. Then maybe texted after that????? DK

But dude obviously is messed up if he knew her or not. Glad she is ok but fascinating story

Many people are saying he has a vast collection of MAGA hats prominently displayed in his modest dwelling.

Having driven on many of the roads in northern Minnesota along with northern Wisconsin. I totally get it how you are removed from society once you drive down some of those roads, particular the dirt roads. Secondly, as noted above much speculation as to what could have happened. Lets not drag her through the mud though when we don't have all the facts yet.
You always have those people trying to make a situation worst than what it really is.
