Targeting Rule may get tweaked

"intent"

Yeah that couldn't be argued about endlessly... problem solved....

Been arguing for this for a few years. Just like flagrant 1 and 2 in basketball. Some of the calls have been very questionable. Being an automatic ejection all the time makes no sense.

They have to do something. Is it perfect? No, but a great start as I'm sure there will be some discussions on some of the hits.

incidental helmet to helmet, especially where the runner suddenly drops their head so it's not at all clear it was "targeting" have been ridiculous. The plays they should be trying to eliminate are a defenseless player getting smashed in the head. We all know those plays. We know what they look like.

Moving closer to high school rule.
Basically still a 15 yard penalty but not ejection unless egregious contact

Good.

Hate seeing guys getting ejected simply fo playing hard, even when they are playing against the gophers.

Fine with the refinement as long as it doesn't add any more down time to the game. Targeting calls appear to take the most time to process...both on the field and in the review booth. Maybe the "Targeting 1" fouls are non-reviewable...just like any penalty...while the "2s" get the full review.
