2018 Gophers beat the following teams (with current Sagarin rankings).
Using Sagarin because it's an index that ranks all teams, not just a top 25 poll.

2018 Fresno State 22
2018 Wisconsin 32
2018 Purdue 36
2018 Georgia Tech 39
2018 Indiana 64
2018 Miami Ohio 88
2018 New Mexico State 167

Beat 4 top 40 teams
Avg ranking for teams we beat was 64th

2017 - 0 wins vs top 70. Avg win ranking wsa 113th
2016 beat #34, #35. Avg win ranking was 96th
2015 No Top 50 wins. Avg win ranking was 101
2014 1 win vs top 40. Avg win ranking was 86th
2013 1 win vs top 40. Avg win ranking was 92nd
2012 1 win for top 40. Avg win ranking was 110th

2009 1 win vs top 40. Avg win ranking was 73rd
2008 0 vs top 60. Avg win was 100th

Guess this just further supports how strongly they finished the season. It's an awful long time until next season starts....

Also, though this isn't part of the comparison, one has to also look at the manner with which we beat three of the four top 40 teams. WI, Purdue and GT were never close....

Nice breakdown. I think your numbers are pre-bowl maybe, as the current numbers are slightly different.

166 - New Mexico State
21 - Fresno State
85 - Miami OH
57 - Maryland
10 - Iowa
3 - Ohio State
54 - Nebraska
66 - Indiana
109 - Illinois
47 - Purdue
32 - Northwestern
25 - Wisconsin
48 - Georgia Tech

42 - Minnesota

The Illinois loss still stings. The Nebraska and Maryland ones aren't quite as bad as made out to be. Both finished in the 50's.

I pulled it about a week ago.
I'll re-update my numbers after the Bowl games are all done.

I think the biggest point is how different the level of competition they beat was compared to last year. Even though going into the WI game the record was still at 5 wins, the team was out-performing last year.
