Drivers in Detroit this week may notice a major, yet temporary change to one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.
Through the rest of this month, the Uniroyal Giant Tire will be sporting a 50-foot banner celebrating the Quick Lane Bowl, set to be played the day after Christmas at Ford Field.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are coming to town for the Quick Lane Bowl, which has been played since 2014.
In the days leading up to the game, the Uniroyal giant tire -- located along I-94 in Allen Park, well known for welcoming visitors to Detroit on their way from the airport to the city -- will be welcoming the teams.
Representatives say this is the first time any such banner has been used on the tire in its 53 years along the interstate.
“The giant tire has been a well-known fixture in Detroit for decades,” Uniroyal brand director Alonso Tiscareno said. “We wanted a chance for the giant tire to have a role in a large event happening in the city. Both Detroit and Uniroyal have a long history in automotive, and this banner is a unique way for us to be an even bigger part of this city.”
