Isaiah Washington is a former four-star recruit who has had a relatively tough time adjusting to life with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. A 6-foot-1 guard, his efficiency numbers since hitting campus haven’t exactly been something to write home about.

However, at least in flashes this season, it appears Richard Pitino’s current approach on how to use Washington is paying off, as he’s coming off one of his better games in the season against North Florida on Tuesday, scoring 14 points and dishing out 13 assists.

“That’s Isaiah. Some days he’s good. Some days he’s not. He’s got to find a way to get consistent with every little thing that he does. He’s got the talent. But it’s just a matter of his habits continuing to improve,” said Pitino following the game via The AP.

For the season, Washington’s numbers remain lackluster. He’s only shooting 27 percent from the field and 15 percent from beyond the arc.

“He has really great court vision, and he really knows how to get in the paint,” Jordan Murphy said of Washington. “So, when you combine those two, it’s a great equation to have.”

The sample size says not to get too hyperbolic yet, but maybe, just maybe, Tuesday was the night when Isaiah Washington finally turned a corner, and will begin to regularly help the Minnesota Golden Gophers on a more consistent basis.

I see a better jell with his teammates when he takes the floor. The assist factor is huge

Now Pitino just has to convince IW of that fact. "Feed them Seymour, feed them!"

IW is our only chance on the road. Our offense will be way out on the perimeter all game long unless he can break people down.

He is the key to the rest of the season in my mind.
