The former assistant athletic director of sales and service at the University of Minnesota appeared in federal court Friday, changing his plea to guilty on a wire fraud charge.

Court records show Brent Allan Holck, who managed ticket sales, entered the change of plea in U.S. District Court. Sentencing is scheduled for May 6 of next year.

In June, 2017, University of Minnesota Athletic Director Mark Coyle confirmed the FBI was notified about possible criminal activity in the school's ticket office.

Coyle said in a statement that an employee was terminated after an internal audit noted discrepancies dating back to 2011.

A university spokesperson said Holck began at the university in May, 2008 after working in the Duke University Athletic office. His last day on the job was Feb. 3, 2017. Public records show he was paid about $90,000 a year.

Coyle's statement said the audit led to an investigation, revealing "a sophisticated scheme where tickets reported as unused and not paid for were, in fact, distributed and used."

The criminal complaint alleges Holck used his position and access to the university's ticket-sales system to locate completed ticket orders related to various events. After those events had taken place, and in many cases after the tickets had been used, he is alleged to have deleted those orders in order to fraudulently cause refunds to be issued to accounts he controlled.

It also alleges he issued tickets and parking passes to personal or business acquaintances, who then sold them and gave Holck the majority of the proceeds.

Go Gophers!!

Kinda terrible it lasted that long.

Good that an internal audit eventually caught him.

If only he had used his entrepreneurial spirit for good instead of evil.
