Gophers to play Georgia Tech in Quick Lane Bowl

Players should be happy. The Quick Lane Bowl had a pretty decent player gift package last year:

$175 Best Buy gift card, JBL bluetooth headphones, life-sized Fathead decal for each participant of his likeness, Ogio backpack and tag, mini-helmet, hoodie, workout shorts, winter hat, vintage football.

Anyone who’s disappointed with the matchup sound go see how GT fans feel about it. LOL

I suppose.

Very pleased the Gophers are going bowling, for one thing. So is every single person who posted in this thread. That's just an automatic given.

15 extra practices. That's how bowl programs get a head start and getter better than non-bowl programs. Very key to be in a bowl each year.

And it gets the Gophers on the Bowl TV schedule. National ESPN audience for fans, alumni, and recruits. And we recruit in Georgia.

Not a glamorous bowl location by any means, but it's indoors so the weather won't matter. And some people have said that area downtown around the stadiums is safe and fun.

Looking forward to it!
Agree with this. I'm thankful for the extra practices and another game! Will be fun! [emoji3598][emoji2175][emoji458]

At least it's in a dome, but the dry field will help GA Tech, a very tough, well-coached team. It will be a challenge for the Gophers, could be a high-scoring game. Virginia in the Music City Bowl would have been less of a challenge and much more for fans to do and see in Nashville.

How are the bed bugs in Detroit?

Nashville would've been very cool. I would've said the Gophers had no chance, because it's more of a mid-tier bowl for the Big Ten .... but then 6-6 Purdue jumped up into it. So .. yeah! Oh well

Yuck. Wasting 15 days of practice to prepare for triple option that we'll never see in conference next year, our run defense is bad, and GA Tech coach retiring after it.

Well, Wisconsin had a 2000 yard rusher and a bunch of future NFL linemen and they were pumped up at home to keep the Axe and the Gophers did fine.

Were they?

I'm bummed about going to Detroit, but Georgia Tech is as good or better than Oregon and Miami. Frankly I'm a little surprised they ended up in this bowl.

It should be fun, and as a silver lining it will be valuable experience facing an option offense with Georgia Southern on the schedule next year...

We play a triple option team next year in non conference

We will practice more than just the triple option defense during the weeks leading up to it

What happened to Redbox? No teams assigned yet. Seems like Gophers get screwed.

Clearly a glass-half-full perspective. Thank you.

I've spent a lot of time in both Nashville and Detroit, and there's about an equal amount to do in both. If you like casinos the area around Ford Field has that. Nashville will be moderately warmer that time of year, but the weather inside Ford Field will be perfect.

At least they’ll have some extra prep for Georgia Southern game in September.

Why does a crappy city like Detroit have a bowl game while Minneapolis doesn't? If your going to go to a cold weather city for a bowl in a dome there should at least be things to do.

I’ve been to the Bowl game and the area around the stadium isn’t too bad, it’s not great but improving. Ford Field is really cool.$$$ is all it takes to get MPLS a Bowl game. Get one of the Fortune 500 companies here to sponsor it and voila, you have yourself a bowl game. Mosaic Bowl anyone? Cargill Bowl?

Yes, in my view as a possible bowl attendee, this would have been one of the better options. It's indoors. The stadium is downtown and the downtown area of Detroit is rather compact. There are hotels within a few blocks of the stadium and they are also close to the restaurants and bars/clubs.

There will be legal weed at the QuickLane Bowl!

There's a lot of bowls I'd have gone to, but this isn't one of them. But I'll watch on tv...

After being pumped by speculation all week for a bigger name opponent in a better bowl, this is a downer.

You think GA Tech fans think they are playing a big named opponent?

They wouldn’t be spending 15 practices preparing for the option.

I doubt they spend 15 practices preparing for a triple option. Can practice a lot of other stuff that might help. Also, I don’t think that 15 practices makes us significantly better for next year. Just a nice, easy way to show we improved over last year. Bowl games are meaningless outside of about 8 of them
