Yes, IW's good games have been against non-conference opponents, not B1G opponents, but that's who's been on the schedule. He certainly looks like he's making strides, but his progress will not be linear. There will be ups and downs. Good games and bad games. The key is incremental progress, so that by the end of the season he's playing like the good IW on a consistent basis.
A few thoughts about his shooting.
1st: IW can shoot the ball. He's got a nice, smooth shooting motion. The term "streak shooter" is poorly applied to a lot of players, imo, but IW is the case study of a "streak shooter". When he's in the zone he can drop 50 on you. When he's not, he won't stop shooting and that's been a problem up till now.
2nd: He needs to continue to work on eliminating bad shot selection. Specifically racing up the court with numbers, a small lead & a full shot clock, is not the time to jack up an off-balance 3 pointer. It's low % & it's a momentum killer. In his gopher career this has been one of his greatest weaknesses.
3rd: He's so full of swagger, that he's easily baited by trash talk. He doesn't seem to be able to ignore it, instead he feels the need to shut people up, by jacking up ill advised 3 pointers. Watch opposing PG's play with his mind in the B1G. He just hasn't been mature enough yet, to ignore the trash talk and play through it. Hopefully he's maturing and become the guy who toys with the other guy's head, rather than being on the receiving end this season.
