Johnson Named All-Big Ten First Team

The Big Ten conference announced today that seven University of Minnesota football players were named All-Big Ten on offense.
Receiver Tyler Johnson was named All-Big Ten First Team by the media and second team by the coaches. The junior receiver had a season for the record books as he caught 74 passes (second in B1G) for 1,112 yards (second in B1G) and 10 touchdowns (third in B1G). His 74 catches, 1,112 yards and 10 touchdowns are the second most ever for a Gopher in a single season. He is 10 catches behind Eric Decker's record of 84 set in 2008 and is 14 yards shy of breaking Ron Johnson's single-season yardage record of 1,125 set in 2000. Ron Johnson (2000) and Omar Douglas (1993) each caught 11 touchdowns to share the school record.

Johnson is the first Gopher to be named All-Big Ten First Team on offense since offensive lineman Zac Epping in 2014. He is the first receiver to be recognized with first team honors since Decker in 2009 when the coaches bestowed him with that honor.

Donnell Greene was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the coaches and media, while the rest of the starting offensive line Blaise Andries, Daniel Faalele, Conner Olson and Jared Weyler were named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media. Running back Mohamed Ibrahim, who has rushed for 936 and seven touchdowns in nine games, was also named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media.

Nice looking list.... Bodes awfully well for 2019-2020.

How recently have we had 5 offensive linemen receive recognition? Or even say 3? Shout out to coach Callahan!!!!

Very nice to see the entire OLine recognized. They really improved as the year went along.
Congrats to Tyler. What a great season for him. You could see it happening last year and after he was injured against Nebraska we lost the ability to pass and catch.

Holy smokes! The entire offensive line? That's wild!

Not only that, Faalele only started 7 of the 12 games and got All-Big Ten Honorable Mention....tells you what kind of impression he made on the league.

For a team without a dominant running game it is pretty amazing that all 5 lineman got recognized.

Gotta love that of the 7 guys recognized it ended up being just 2 seniors, along with 1 junior, 1 sophomore, and 3 freshman. Assuming Johnson is back next year that bodes well for the future.

Who knew our offensive linemen were such media darlings?

It’s interesting that NW was blanked in the media first, second and third team, and only had one (third team) player make it in the coaches group. No stars but played well together I guess. I’m guessing Fitzgerald gets coach of the year honors.

How many honorable mention players are there from all teams?

Looks like the media likes us better than the coaches.

An early Christmas present for these guys! Then a Bowl game to enjoy as well! Go Gophers!

Nice work by the o-line. It seems Gopher fans in recent memory (past 15 or so years) have wondered why they can't emulate Wisconsin's model of success...it was refreshing to see them win the axe using that model, and with a future that looks bright for that o-line, it looks like that model can possibly carry over for the next several years.

Ty Johnson was a no-brainer too. Most physically gifted receiver I can remember the Gophers having in my young (33 year old) life.

BTN showing TJ’s school to be.....OSU! Talk about no respect.
