Glen on BTN predicts Gopbers win next two.

Glen is smokin that Wayzata wild wood weed again. [emoji41]

Who knew the U was still paying Glen's buyout in bath salts.

His teeth are whiter than the Williams Arena court.

I think most people wouldn't care too much about the rest of the season if we beat Wisconsin.

I've been more than a little critical of him and still think the ratio of sizzle to steak is about 10:1, but if he ends the lengthy Wisconsin nightmare in Year One, I'll gladly give credit where it's due.

Very few of us 'holers predicted our Gophers would beat Purdue last week in the "predict the score" thread, so by default, most 'holers have no right to mock Mason for his prediction.

I'll go with it.

Bulletin board material...for both teams?

This thread will deserve a bump on Saturday around 1:45 PM to see how Coach Mase's crystal ball is working.

I for one would not complain about half this outcome...whichever half might occur...and would fully accept the predicted outcome...no matter who was coach.

Just sayin'...

GopherHole would still hate Fleck for going 7-5.

7-5 is an unimpressive season and would mean a losing B1G record. Also wouldn't change that we were embarrassed by three bad teams. That said, getting the Wisconsin monkey off our back would take the sting out.

Wisconsin has issues on their offensive line, at QB, and all over the defense. Their elite nose tackle, Olive Sagapolu is now out for the season. Secondary issues.

It doesn’t mean we will win, but it’s the best chance we’ve had in a while. If they can contain Wisconsin’s running game, win turnovers we will win this game. That first item is my big question mark. As good as we looked vs Purdue they barely attempted to run most of the game and they don’t have a top tier back.

I also believe the back-up RB pulled a hamstring on Saturday.

I'm not ripping on anyone that says this is our best chance to beat Wisconsin in a while. In fact, I agree - it does look to be our best chance to beat them in a while. There will be a converging set of ingredients that will combine to result in either a glorious win, or yet another loss to add to this unbearable string of losses to the skunks.

1. murmurs (again) of Wisonsin finally entering a long-term slide.
2. Gophers have been terrible on the road
3. Wisconsin with personnel and injury issues all over the place
4. Gophers underwent injury issues too, but most of that was weeks ago.
5. law of averages, at least, have to catch up sooner or later. If the awful 2007 Gopher team could take a game to the wire, one of these years everything HAS to go right.
6. Wisconsin with likely the best rushing attack the Gophers have seen and the Gophers have given up a lot on the ground, on the road
7. Axe emotions - Wisconsin always does a great job of not overlooking the Gophers
8. Purdue game a one week spike after firing D coordinator?
9. Gopher offense continues to improve and left with one final season ending game against a hobbled Wisconsin D.
10. Camp Randal atmosphere possibly the most tame in recent memory
11. Both Wisconsin and Minnesota with very important games on 11/17 where results will either confirm or blow away many of these numbered points.

I said this after the Indiana game but there is a lot to play for in these last games for the Gophers. Everything Fleck is supposedly building is on display and a strong finish and bowl game (not to mention finally getting the axe) have the potential to grow the excitement over this team. Right after I posted that, the Gophers played one of the most disheartening games of the last 20 years against Illinois. But, then along came Purdue - Giving the squad a second chance to possibly set the state for a very exciting 2019.

Yeah, we never know what will show up, do we? Keeps us on out toes. Always darkest before the dawn.

good take Schnauzer

Good take. And atta boy Mase - hopefully we can live up to the prediction! He must have been very impressed by the Purdue game. We might have the luxury of looking at the Wisconsin game but I guarantee Fleck and the Gophers are going all in on Northwestern and will worry about Wisconsin next week. The Cats will be tough but they can be beaten. We will need to play at least as well as we did against Purdue to win.

Gotta get Northwestern this week. They are coming off clinching the West and rivalry game again Illinois is next week. I don't like our chances on the road where we have lost by 23.5 points per game this year.

I honestly think this weekend will give us a really good idea what to expect in the Wisconsin game. If the team comes out and plays like the one that showed up against Purdue I like our chances in both games. If the defense reverts back to giving up big plays then we will know it was just a blip and the issues still need fixing.

Said it in a different thread, the main thing that gives me hope for these games is that neither team is overly explosive on offense. Obviously Wisconsin has Taylor but he has only found the EZ in 3 of their 7 games so if you can keep him from breaking off the huge runs you can bog down their offense. Wisconsin can't throw this year, especially without Hornibrook, but even if he is back their passing offense resembles the one we have been running out there in recent years. Northwestern doesn't really do anything special on offense at all. Their passing offense has been similar to ours but they can't run the ball.

Offensively they are very different teams but they are also very much one handed teams so if you can do enough defensively to force them to rely on the thing they are uncomfortable with you have a shot. Then it all comes down to our offense, when we take care of the ball good things happen on that side of the ball.

Neither game will be easy but both are winnable IF, and its a big if, IF we play the way we have shown we are capable of playing at times this season. Would be awesome to run off a few wins to wrap up the regular season and hopefully springboard into next year when the vast majority of the team returns and we hopefully get some key pieces back healthy and ready to go.
