Embracing the cold

The temperature at kickoff Saturday was 21 degrees, making it the third-coldest college game in TCF Bank Stadium history. The Nov. 15, 2014, game against Ohio State had a kickoff temperature of 15, and the Nov. 23, 2013, game against Wisconsin started at 18 degrees.

Fleck was happy to see it.

"Our team was fired up all week. We saw what the temperature was going to be,'' he said. "This is Minnesota. We embraced it all week. We can't wait to get to November football in the state of Minnesota. The more home games we can have in the state of Minnesota [in November], that's an advantage.''

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm agreed. "I don't think we were ready for the elements,'' he said. "We let that get to us as well.''

Go Gophers!!

Well it wasn't a snow storm like the Purdue locals are saying. If it is by their standards, they have a whole new world out there to witness.

Yeah Purdue was whooped from the get go.
Fleck 1
Brohm .9 (lost a percentage for not having team ready)

Thought it was odd when we arrived at the game to the usual of the Gophers warming up on the field and Purdue not even specialists were not out there

I was going to remark early in the in-game thread that hopefully, the day will soon come when attending a game on a day like this will be fun.

That day got a lot closer.

Reminds me of the time the Vikes played the (then) LA Rams in a playoff game at Met Stadium. The Rams were so psyched out by the cold weather, they were beat before the game even started.

Love the idea of embracing the cold and getting excited about it. Not sure how much of an advantage it is but there is no getting around it. May as well make it our identity and if it gets in the head of the other team all the better.

There's been two I-O-W-A games at TCF where they just didn't seem to want to be there...and the only reason was it was friggin' cold.

Similar could be said against tOSU...which was the other SNOW game at TCF.

i remarked to a Boiler fan walking up the steps by me that "it gets cold in Indiana too" and the reply was "it's 22 degrees there right now."

It's the Big Ten. These teams play in the cold. 'Nuff said.

Boise State was doing warm-ups sans shirts Friday night before their home game versus Fresno State. Very cold in Idaho that night; Boise won.

I hear what you are saying Garner, but today was one of the most fun Gopher game I have watched. The cold doesn’t seem to matter much when the team is playing well.

Great to hear! Glad you had a good time.

That surprises me. I've been to some very cold games there and this doesn't seem to rank up there. The Wisconsin game is the one that sticks out. Although.....I was also way under-dressed.

The coldest game I can remember was vs Michigan State and Le’Veon Bell. I think the MSU team came in needing to win to get to six wins and the game was close in score, but it never felt like the Gophs could get a first down.

I've been at all 3

Wisconsin game was coldest, my beer literally froze

Tohsu felt warmer, I'm surprised it's #2

In my mind, this was the coldest game in TCF history. I looked it up and apparently the kickoff temp that day at 2:30 was 26 degrees. Nonetheless, I remember it as feeling way colder than yesterday's game. Le'Veon Bell rushed for 266 yards - ugh.

Coldest gopher games in stadium history. My wife and I attended the Viking playoff game where Walsh shanked the late field goal. That one was cold and painful.

I was at the outdoor gopher hockey game a few years back at TCF. 6 degrees for that one. I think I was at the really cold football game vs Wisconsin too but don't remember the temp.

Almost forgot the outdoor hockey game, that was another chilly one.

I was practically overdressed for that game, at least in that i got sweated up walking there.

The beer was freezing that day. As God is my witness, we were drinking beer slushies. The Schnapps did not freeze, it must be said.

was at this one as well, beer very frozen. remember lots of people huddling in the concourse stairwells trying to get warm.

Beer slushed up yesterday as well. Last 1/3 of the can was the consistency of a blended margarita.

Weather discussions are the best.

Next Saturday looks very similar to yesterday. The Gophers are going to win that one too.

What, Brohm didn’t have his team ready to go, they must fire him according to Gopherhole logic!

At the half the bathroom was wall to wall humanity trying to warm up for Wisc.

I remember Urban Meyer saying that he never wanted to play another game up in Minnesota in November. It is a factor.
