Big Ten Power Rankings Week of 11/5

Omaha World Herald chimes in with Gophers 13th:

13. MINNESOTA (4-5, 1-5)
Last week: Lost to Illinois 55-31

This week: vs. Purdue, 2:30 (ESPN2)

Bad look for coach P.J. Fleck’s boat-rowin’ operation. Illinois was reeling, and Minnesota was gashed by a basic zone-read outfit, giving up four touchdowns of at least 67 yards.

MLive.com chimes in with Gophers 13th:

13. MINNESOTA (4-5, 1-5)
P.J. Fleck's boat has hit rock bottom in 2018. Fifty-five points and 646 yards of total offense allowed to Illinois? That's five of six losses for the Gophers and a single Big Ten victory against Indiana is all Minnesota might end up with. Fleck got a contract extension after 5-7. What's in store after 4-8? (Last week: 10)

BTN chimes in with Gophers 13th:

13) Minnesota (4-5, 1-5)

Minnesota lost to Illinois 55-31. This loss hurt the Gophers bowl chances. The Gopher defense couldn’t stop the run allowing 430 yards and 5 TD on the ground. Tanner Morgan was the starting QB for the 2nd straight game for injured started Zack Annexstad. He went 14/27 for 258 yards and 2 TD. For the Gophers to go bowling they’ll need to win 2 of the final three against Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

UP NEXT: Minnesota plays Purdue at 3:30 pm ET on ESPN2.

Ah, what??

FanSided chimes in with Gophers 13th:

13. MINNESOTA Last rank: 11

Just one week after things started trending up for Minnesota, the Golden Gophers go and inexplicably get blown out by Illinois. P.J. Fleck’s team had what was supposed to be an easy win right in front of them that would have helped them maybe make a bowl game. Now, with a 4-5 record and a remaining schedule that features Purdue, Northwestern, and Wisconsin, a bowl game seems out of reach.

The Hoosier Network chimes in with Gophers 13th:

13. Minnesota (4-5, 1-5)
Last week: 55-31 LOSS at Illinois

This week: vs Purdue (3:30 ESPN2)

All of the progress that Minnesota made with a win over Indiana was lost this past weekend in Champaign. P.J. Fleck is firmly on the hot seat after his team laid an egg against one of the worst teams in the Big Ten.

Tanner Morgan was fine, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns. They also ran for 178 yards and scored 31 points. However, the defense allowed over 600 total yards again, this time it came thanks to 430 rushing yards from the Illini. Illinois averaged 12.3 yards per carry and scored 5 rushing touchdowns. Opponents have scored 30 or more points on Minnesota in their last six games. The defense is a big issue, and it could be the reason Fleck is gone after two years.

Previous Ranking: 11

Ah, what??

I mean you can't expect the Big Ten Network to get a Big Ten team's remaining schedule right...What is funny is they got it right in the UP NEXT line but apparently they couldn't proof read a whole paragraph to make sure the rest was right.

Hard to argue with being ranked this low in the power rankings outside of maybe a small quibble with being ranked below an Indiana team with the same record who we beat head to head.

The hot seat and the gone after 2 years comments are just stupid. Would take a massive off the field scandal of some kind for Fleck to get fired at the end of this season.

Clearly the on field results are not there at the moment but to even suggest the team would entertain firing Fleck after 2 years, especially at a place like Minnesota which has not won at a high level in a long time, is just asinine.
