2018 College Football Head Coach Fire and Hire Thread

Very preliminary, but Dan Dakich is saying Brohm to Louisville will be announced after Xmas.

If this is true I bet Brohm is going to get a really warm reception from the fans this weekend in West Lafayette :cool02:

Guessing the boo birds will be out in full effect any time his picture is shown on the jumbo tron.

Note to PJ: Are some Purdue recruits ready to jump ship?

SI: Kansas Finalizing Deal to Hire Les Miles as Jayhawks Head Coach

Kansas is finalizing a deal to make Les Miles the new leader of the Jayhawks football program, multiple sources told Sports Illustrated. An announcement could come as soon as this weekend. In a text message Friday evening, Kansas athletic director Jeff Long did not confirm the report. Miles did not respond to a request for comment. Barring a last-minute change, the 65-year-old Miles, the quirky, grass-eating former LSU coach, will be in charge of restoring respectability to a Big 12 cellar-dweller that hasn’t had a winning season in a decade. He replaces fired coach David Beaty, taking his championship swagger, oddly positioned ball cap and unusual vernacular to one of the nation’s most struggling programs.

Contractual negotiations between Miles and Kansas have been ongoing this week, and the coach’s buyout settlement with LSU on Thursday opened the door for him to potentially land this gig.

Miles’s wacky ways and championship pedigree should excite a destitute fan base at a stop that is not all dissimilar to his first head coaching gig. Miles helped turn Oklahoma State from a Big 12 punching bag that had made one bowl trip in the previous 12 seasons into a feisty competitor in the early 2000s. Nearly 20 years older, Miles faces even more of an uphill climb. Kansas is on its fourth head coach since Mark Mangino’s reign ended in 2009, and the Jayhawks (3–7, 1–6) are guaranteed their 22nd losing record in the conference in the last 23 seasons. They’ve been to four bowl games since 1995, haven’t won a conference championship in a half a century and lost 35 of their last 37 Big 12 games.

KU makes it official:

Les Miles has been hired as Kansas' next head football coach, the school announced Sunday.

"Since the beginning of our search, we focused on identifying and recruiting an experienced head coach with a strong track record of success on and off the field," athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement. "Les Miles is exactly what we need for our program right now. His national reputation as a great recruiter and as a coach who student-athletes love playing for will enable us to break the cycle and return a winning tradition to the Kansas Jayhawks. We are thrilled to have Les and his family as Jayhawks."

Miles will receive a five-year contract that will pay him $2.775 million per year, with additional retention bonuses due in November 2020 and November 2022.

"I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the KU football program and I am grateful to Chancellor [Douglas A.] Girod and Jeff Long for the opportunity," Miles said in a statement. "We will bring Jayhawk Football back and we will do it with outstanding coaches, tremendous student-athletes of character and ability and an unrelenting drive for excellence. My family and I cannot wait to be a part of the KU family!"

ESPN: John Bonamego fired as Central Michigan coach after 1-11 season

Central Michigan fired coach John Bonamego on Friday night, hours after the team completed the worst season in team history.

Bonamego went 22-29 in four seasons with the Chippewas, but the team finished 1-11 this fall, its first losing regular season since 2011.

Central Michigan lost 51-13 in its season finale Friday afternoon at Toledo.

"Making a leadership change is a difficult decision, especially when you know that coach has given his all to CMU," athletic director Michael Alford said in a prepared statement. "After conducting a 360-degree evaluation of the program, it was clear that a change is needed if we are going to compete for and win championships."

Kliff Kingsbury fired at Texas Tech.

I know he will get a HC job but if I was a top25 team I'd interview this guy as OC. Love watching their team play offense. Still no Leach though.

Sources: Mack Brown Returning to UNC

North Carolina has reached an agreement with Mack Brown to once again coach the Tar Heels, multiple sources have confirmed.

An announcement is expected Tuesday. Brown has already begun efforts to assemble his coaching staff, according to sources.

UNC was intent on a quick process. The 2018 season concluded with a 2-9 record on Saturday, and Larry Fedora was officially dismissed on Sunday. Fedora was 45-43 in his seven seasons in Chapel Hill.

Brown, 67, has spent the past five years as a college football analyst for ESPN after an illustrious coaching career. The Cookeville, Tenn. native amassed a 244-122 record in 30 years as a head coach. After stints at Appalachian State (1983) and Tulane (1985-87), he first took the UNC job in 1988 and rebounded from back-to-back 1-10 records to deliver winning seasons in each of the next eight years, highlighted by top-10 national rankings in the final AP Poll in 1996-97.

ESPN: Tyson Helton agrees to coach Western Kentucky

Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton has reached an agreement to become Western Kentucky's next head coach, sources told ESPN.

An announcement is expected in the next day or two.

Helton, 41, just finished his first season as Tennessee's offensive playcaller and quarterbacks coach under Jeremy Pruitt. Helton, the younger brother of USC head coach Clay Helton, was previously on the USC staff before joining Pruitt on the Vols' staff. Helton spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Western Kentucky as the Hilltoppers' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Western Kentucky athletic director Todd Stewart announced Sunday that the school had fired Mike Sanford, who was 9-16 in two seasons there.
