NW-----5-1------5-3---201--189---2-3------3-0------Won 4

IL------1-4------3-5---206--301---2-3------1-2------Lost 3
NE-----1-4------2-6---238--267---2-3------0-3------Won 2

Northwestern won all their away games.
Purdue won 2 of 3 away games.
Wisconsin has a 4-1 record at home.
Wisconsin and Purdue offense scored the most points.
Illinois and Minnesota gave up the most points.
Minnesota is 4-1 at home, but will be tested by two good road teams.

It is looking like Northwestern to be the Big Ten West Champion. They are on a four-game winning streak.

Minnesota has a greater likelihood of a 4-8 to 5-7 finish unless they upset one or two of the last three teams they face.

The Indiana game proved that if the Gophers have a credible running attack that it can open up the passing game. Let's hope Ibrahim can be back in the lineup. It is not looking so good for Shannon Brooks as far as playing in the next couple of games. Bateman is starting to make noise in a big way. Tanner Morgan may be the QB the rest of the season with his long bomb ability better and his running threat.

For Minnesota to upset - 1. Defense have to improve drastically; 2. A healthy WR Corps and Bateman, Autman, Douglas, and others need to bring their A game. Need for TJ to get back healthy; 3. We need a couple of healthy running backs. Preferrably if Brooks can be back for the last two games.

Anything can happen barring injuries.

I don't think the home record is accurate. NW still has to get through IA and I think we match up well with them also so they aren't a lock to win the west quite yet. Not sure they are even favored. If it comes down to three way tiebreakers, how would that come out?

My bad. I forgot about Iowa and Northwestern plays Notre Dame. Minnesota can act as a spoiler to NW.

Who do you want to be Big Ten West Champion?

Yup. I hope Northwestern upsets Notre Dame.

NW lost to Duke.
Duke has only won 1 conference game so far.

Sometimes college football is weird.

Purdue routed Ohio State.

Gophers over Badgers at Camp Randall is a good dream to wake up from.

The West could finish really even this year, except for Illinois, if things fall right. If we go on a run, Nebraska goes on a run ...

Head to head is first tiebreaker. Iowa beats NW. Like I said, no bueno.

Correct, head to head is first tiebreaker IF only two teams are tied. If three or more are tied it gets a lot more complex (and surprisingly head to head doesn't seem to play into it, unless I missed it):

The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 8 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step (or sub-step), the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative. If three or more teams remain tied after any step, move to next step in tiebreaker with remaining tied teams.

1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.

2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.

3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).
(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.

5. The best cumulative conference winning percentage of non-divisional opponents.
(a) Example: East 1 non-divisional opponents are 20-7, East 2 non-divisional opponents are 19-8, East 3 non-divisional opponents are 14-13 - East 1 would be the representative.

6. The records of the three teams will be compared against the highest placed non-divisional teams in their division order of finish (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7).

(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

(b) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the record will prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e. 1-0 is better than 0-0, 2-0 is better than 1-0, etc.)

7. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.

8. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

Aside from us winning out (which is very unlikely), the only "no way" game is IL beating NW. Otherwise all the other scenarios are very very possible. Wow

NW-----5-4

And Nebraska could finish 5-4 in this scenario too!!!

Neb: at Ohio St, Illinois, Mich St, at Iowa

Probably more unlikely than ILL beating NW, but possible!

The first tiebreaker in a three-team situation is:
1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.

Yeh, so it's a 3 way head to head.

1 beats 2
2 beats 3
3 beats 1

All are 1-1.
All tied. Next tiebreaker.

Or
1 beats 2
1 beats 3
2 beats 3

1 is 2-0
2 is 1-1
3 is 0-2

#1 advances

However, in this scenario, #1 likely had a weaker couple losses somewhere else but beat both of these teams head to head.

The West could finish really even this year, except for Illinois, if things fall right. If we go on a run, Nebraska goes on a run ...

Quite possible and then would outsiders say "The Big Ten West is really bad"? I would say it's very balanced :).
