per Bleacher Report:

The Ohio State Buckeyes reportedly have bigger problems than just one loss after Purdue beat them by 29 points Saturday.

Scott Roussel of Football Scoop cited sources who said there is "friction" between head coach Urban Meyer and athletic director Gene Smith. He also noted "there is a tension that hasn't been present in recent years" inside the football program as a whole.

This comes after former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit appeared on the Dan Patrick Show and pointed to the "big problems" within the program as Meyer appears stressed and troubled on the sideline:

After the Purdue loss, Patrick Mayhorn of SB Nation wrote, "Ohio State had the chance to fix their biggest problem in August, and chose to suspend it for three games instead."

Mayhorn pointed to lackluster performances from assistant coaches Meyer has recently hired, including offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, linebacker coach Bill Davis and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano.

"Studrawa—who was hired because he and Urban Meyer had been longtime friends—has been out of his element for three years," Mayhorn wrote, while Davis—the best man at Meyer's wedding—has struggled to coach an impactful linebacker group. Mayhorn added that Schiano "was once again out-schemed by the opposing offensive coaches."

Go Gophers!!

Greg Schiano...

I wonder where he could go to if his time ends at OSU.

HMMM..... but sounds like OSU doesn't like him as a D-coordinator. Would he really help here?

This is comical to me. They don’t lose and I bet this article doesn’t see the light of day. Just trying to continue rolling the agenda along because I’m sure their “source” is just pissed they lost to Purdue.

Fleck adores Schiano. Says he taught him more than anyone.

If Schiano became available PJ would call him within 82 seconds.

Unless Gene Smith can convince Saban to come to OSU, Meyer will be there as long as he wants to be there.

Go Gophers!!

It will be poetic justice if Urban Meyer gets fired ans is replaced by Jeff Brohm the coach who whipped tOSU.

Schiano is one of the best coordinators in the country and could be a head coach at a lot of P5 programs. I really don't think defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Gophers is on his short list.

Unless he does something stupid like turning a blind eye to woman beaters on his staff.... Wait? What?

That episode definitely contributes to the tension but Meyer paid the price and people have moved on for the most part. Like him or not, he continues to win at a rate that is only surpassed by Saban. Smith would be stupid to look in a different direction assuming Meyer can keep it going.

Meyer's own choices / statements make it clear that he thinks he is the victim...

The school did everything it could to cover for him, if he's pissed, that's his own deal.

Why are we talking about Schiano? If there's a regime change in Columbus, we ought to offer Urban Meyer the Minnesota job. Kidnap him if we have to.
