Does Bob Motzko have a Gopher Hockey TV or radio show?

He is not as visible as Lindsay Whalen or PJ Fleck. At least that is my perception.

On a note as to why I think Bob Mokzto's hiring makes sense:

The hockey landscape in Minnesota and recruiting dynamics have drastically changed since the days of Doug Wood and Don Lucia.

Kids started to leave early for the Pros. Other programs are stocking up with players from the Canadian Juniors.

This is hockey country and other programs are gunning for the top Minnesota hockey kids. It is more important than ever to have kids who are "older" as Bob says. The Gophers have lost too many kids early into the NHL Draft. Ergo, it is tough to bring in championships year after year.

The last time the Gophers had won an NCAA championship, Lindsay Whalen was playing for the Gophers.

Folks, there is a fourteen year drought. Things have gotten tougher with the Gophers moving into the Big Ten. I missed the old WCHA. In the fourteen years, the Eastern hockey programs dominate with Boston College leading the pack with four national championships. I don't know what their magic formula is.

It is obvious why Lucia had to step down. I think Bob Motzko knows a thing or two because he has seen a thing or two that works.

Gopher Hockey need this change in a big hurry. Gopher Hockey is in danger of a Gopher Football like slump in a hurry. Minnesota is a hot bed of recruiting. So, competition is tough. But, on the other hand more HS kids are going to Juniors or to finishing programs and then go onto college or to the Pros. Not very many elite players stick around for four years. This is true with the Gophers.

The Gopher need to figure out the recruiting magic formula where there is balance of reliable kids who will stick it out for four years and the journeyman elite players who will play for the Gophers one or two years. They need to get players from anywhere not just in their backyard.

They need to change and be a relevant program again. This is hockey country. Yet, there is an emptiness feeling with championship droughts for both the Gophers and the Wild. UMD has prevented Minnesota irrelevance in championship hockey by winning it all in 2011 and 2018.

Dear lord please don't compare Gopher hockey to Gopher football. Gopher football hasn't been nationally relevant for what 50 years?

The hockey team had four rough years in a row from 07-08 - 10-11. At that point I was ready for a coaching change. The next year Lucia saved his job with a great season and a FF appearance. The three years after that the Gophers were extremely good teams. A title appearance, but three total NCAA victories from those great teams wasn't enough. Then we had three extremely disappointing seasons. Lucia should have been gone after 16-17 if not 15-16.

I was extremely happy about getting Motzko in a much needed coaching shakeup. He is cleaning up the recruiting pipeline and replacing misses with good players like Ranta and Perbix. He has the keys to a Cadillac after fixing up an old Ford to run very well. A title within the next three seasons wouldn't surprise anyone.

Are you even aware of the new recruits that Bob flipped from other schools just this year? Under Lucia, the U was losing it’s luster, but Bob will bring back the work ethic that will have them back fighting for the top.

No, but that is the news I think every Gopher Hockey fan would want to hear. The Gophers have been a good hockey team, but have not made it to too many championships.

Under Don Lucia, they had two national championships in 2002 and 2003. After that, they were runner ups against Union in 2014.

Why don’t you tell us who he flipped?

He flipped Sampo Ranta about a month before the season. An instant impact as he sniped in Duluth in a 1-1 tie and scored against the next night. He already has one of the best shots on the team.

He also flipped Ben Meyers who is putting up good numbers in the USHL and Jack Perbix who is one the best Minnesotans in his class.

You're clearly not up to date on Gopher hockey stuff.

He didn't flip any of those guys.

Fallstrom decommitted. Nelson and Huff didn't come in for 2018. Phillips came in 2017-18.

That website is garbage.

My bad. That was an old posting on 247 Sports by Kyle Goblirsch.

So what is your point of this whole thread? You rant in error about the coach and then just copy and paste a couple versions of the team roster. GH is more of a FB and BB forum, you may want to check out GPL to get a more active discussion about hockey.

I just went back to GPL to see if they had calmed down and they haven't. Talks of giving up on the season, bad coaching, and on and on doesn't quite do it for me. Sure I was disappointed that they didn't play well last night, who wasn't? To give up on the season third game into the year tells me those folks got issues.
