Who Hates Iowa?
Whatever your thoughts are about the Gophers rival to the south, the Hawkeyes had Minnesota's number on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 48-31 victory in Minneapolis. Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley passed for over 300 yards and the Gophers didn’t have an answer on defense. Turnovers in key moments left any glimmer of hope deflated as faithful fans who braved the conditions left cold and disgruntled.
314: Passing yards for Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley. Stanley threw 4 TD passes and completed 23 of his 39 pass attempts. The Gophers were only able to sack him once in the loss.
4: Combined interceptions by the Gophers quarterbacks today. Zack Annexstad threw three while Seth Green threw one. Annexstad was hurried throughout the game, including being sacked five times by the Hawkeyes.
107: Receiving yards for Tyler Johnson on six receptions. Johnson caught a long pass of 52 yards and scored one touchdown.
"Any time you win on the road, there's nothing easy about that," Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said. "Coming in here, playing in a tough environment, I'm really proud of our guys. We got the opportunity to take Floyd back to Iowa City for a year so that's really something to be pleased about."
11: Tackles for Jacob Huff to lead the Gophers in the loss. Huff also had a huge interception in the game that gave Minnesota excellent field position and led to an Annexstad to Johnson touchdown connection.
62: Rushing yards for Mohamed Ibrahim to lead all rushers. Bryce Williams and Seth Green each had 28 with Green scoring a rushing touchdown.
10: The Hawkeyes converted ten third down conversions as well as a perfect 2-for-2 on fourth down. On the other side of the ball, the Gophers were just 3 for 11 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down.
257: Receiving yards for freshman Rashod Bateman through five games thus far. Today was Bateman's first career multi-TD game with all three of his touchdowns coming in the last two games.
49: a 49-yard field goal by Emmit Carpenter put him third in career field goals and fourth in career scoring in team history.
