Pioneer Press article on Carr availability

The ruling should not take this long. Ridiculous they hold all hostage waiting on a answer

By rule, he is ineligible

Why should they rush to overturn their own rule?

Two reasons:

One, if they are going to accept waivers within their own rules, they’re decision making process shouldn’t arbitrarily cost any athletes any fraction of their eligibility.

Two, they should have an obligation to provide a response with enough time so that no gameplan is affected. The lack of decision at this point has undoubtedly cost Pitino some preparation time. He needs Carr to be ready for this specific opponent but has to have a rotation set without him. The NCAA’s inability to review the waiver request by this time has already had a negative impact on an individual game. Fortunately for Minnesota, we don’t have a top 25 opponent today.

Because it would not be rushing. Good grief. Ncaa proves once again it is an organization that picks winners and losers.

^ This.

6 months ago I was ok with the idea of Carr sitting. It seemed fair, per the rules. But after watching the ncaa grant every waiver under the sun for other teams, for mostly weak reasons (usually finding some relative with some, any purported ailment) it no longer seems fair to make Carr sit. From what I’ve read, he has a better reason for transferring than many of those guys.

The fact that they didn't rule before the first game is crap.

Coyle better be raising holy heck with the NCAA - first NC gets away with academic fraud and now we are getting this delayed crap on carr.

it's insane that they have given no response. At least say he sits.

Or at least don't let them have any peace. Have someone calling them every half hour until we get an answer, one way or another.

Pretty clear that this is simply the NCAA's agenda, when it comes to D1 basketball players transferring.

If you merely whisper the word "family member" in the waiver application, they fall over themselves pushing the "grant" button. Any other reason, they use it as an opportunity to compile evidence that they don't approve of "free agents".

"Being a student-athlete is a lot of work and there are some challenges that I've been faced with that have impacted me and kept me from being able to compete to the best of my ability in a way that would help my team win games," JaQuori McLaughlin said in a statement OSU released Friday.

"... This was an important decision that I did not take lightly and I apologize to the fans that have been supportive and treated me so well, even through tough times. It is my hope that even without specific details you can still try to understand that this was about so much more than basketball."

UCSB >> MN

Would a potential starter for one of the blue bloods be put in this position? Guess I have no idea, but would highly, highly doubt it.

Back in 2015, 5-star freshman Cheick Diallo at Kansas didn't receive a decision on his eligibility from the NCAA, due to concerns about impermissible benefits, until after Kansas had played 4 games, at which point it was determined he would be suspended for one more game and then be eligible to play after that. A little different because Diallo was an incoming freshman and Carr is a transfer, but yeah.

Right. Little different situation, and maybe ncaa is being fair here, I honestly dont know. Maybe Im being too conspiratorial but have a difficult time seeing this happen to Duke. Hopefully, Carr doesnt have to wait 4 games.

Totally agree, NCAA is awful!

Pitino just said on the pre-game show that he is still "cautiously optimistic, but you never know when it's in the NCAA's hands." He also said he expects it to be "any day now" that they hear.

Apparently Teddy Allen at Wichita State has also been neither approved nor denied with regard to immediate eligibility after transferring, and the Shockers play tonight.

But it's only awful when its Minnesota

On the radio broadcast last night, Grimm alluded to the delay being in no small part to Pitt dragging their feet and/or straight up contesting the waiver because they are salty that he left. I get being unhappy with a talented player leaving, but its not he like he went to a rival or something. Not sure what they gain other than complicating a young man's dream.

Thanks for this post. Good to know. Glad Grimm said that.
