A new era in Minnesota women's basketball is being met with a new radio home.

It was announced Monday by iHeartMedia Minneapolis that 96.7 FM has become KFAN Plus and will serve as the home of Minnesota women's basketball, which is about to begin its first season under head coach Lindsay Whalen.

An expansion of KFAN 100.3, KFAN Plus will broadcast exclusively on HD Radio and can also be streamed digitally on iHeartRadio

Interesting that there's no mention of Corbu and Lynnette in that release. Could mean nothing...

It is; although I think it was just a slightly rewritten iHeart release timed to the station's format change. Probably was news to the athletic department.

Hopefully, 96.7 FM comes in better than 93.3 FM did. And, one also hopes the "engineers" for 96.7 figure out how to not run commercials during game action and/or the coach's show - which 93.3 did with reckless abandon last season. The announcers (Corbu & Lynnette) are through Learfield/Gophersports Properties, so it would be nice to not have any changes to that team. 96.7 FM had lots of Fox Sports Network shows today. Never even knew about a format change to more sports until today.

This will be great if 96.7 is available on the iHeartRadio app. That way, it shouldn't matter whether the radio station comes in (or if I'm even in Minnesota!)

The show lost all of it's appeal last year when it was no longer live with an audience. Learfield/Gopher Sports Properties missing the boat big time this year not doing a Whalen radio show. Don't know who's decision it might have been to not explore that this season. Once upon a time, those shows were in the head coach contract as a "requirement". You could sell tickets to a Whalen radio show!

I suppose that means we will make due with Whalen's occasional radio appearances on Dan Barreiro's show and on the remnants of the Judd and Mackey show. Maybe Lindsay prefers that approach since she's done segments on those shows over the years. And it has the advantage of reaching a wider audience. On her Dan Barreiro segment last week learned that, much like the players, Lindsay has mix and match coaching uniforms consisting of Doctor Scholls boots (because of her various foot surgeries), slacks and tunics. It simplifies the what to wear decision.
