I'd expect we will get a glimpse of the depth chart today. Do you have an idea of any surprises?

I would guess most interesting will be the backups to see how many freshman there are there.
Starters I think we all have a good idea about.

*Depth Chart

At least, according to the athletic department. https://gophersports.com/sports/2018/5/21/sports-m-footbl-spec-rel-game-notes-html.aspx

Looks like Position Chart went away when Fleck arrived.

Quickly reading through the transcript of Fleck's presser you can maybe pick up a couple little things.
- don't know if it will be a surprise, per se, but I think Bryce Williams will be 2nd at RB as a true freshman
- don't know if a 3rd string QB will be listed on the depth chart. Last year they had 4, with TM ahead of Seth Green as 3rd and 4th string respectively

The staff doesn't take the depth chart seriously. Please, please, please let's all not get so worked about it each week

Looking at the depth chart from Wisconsin last year:

OL - Greene and Schlueter are back, expect them to start at tackles, Weyler is back for center, moving Olson to one of guards, and I guess Andries is the other, Oseland and Dovich are backups
QB - as mentioned above, I think they'll only list ZA as the starter and TM as the backup, no 3rd stringer listed (and they probably hope it will go like that the whole year)
RB - as mentioned above, I think they'll have Rod Smith as starter and then true freshman Bryce Williams as backup, but Ibrahim could be there too
TE - Beebe starter, but no idea who the backup is, or if they'll use two TE sets? Ko Kieft? Bryce Witham?
WR - wow, look at that depth chart! Fleck was obviously pissed off at the WR from the NW game ... anyway, I think we're expecting TJ, DD, and CA-B as starters? Or maybe Bateman will start? Phil Howard backup? Seth Green backup?

DE - I think Umlor moved inside, so it's WD and CC as starters, Esezi and Mafe as backups? Devers? Alex Reigelsperger? (only mention him because he enrolled early for spring ball)
DT - Lot of guys who could be here? Gary Moore? Robinson? Royal? OJ Smith? Umlor?
LB - Should be K-Mart, Barber, Cashman, and Huff backup? not sure who the other backups are
CB - I think the guy from Florida is hurt? Terell Smith true freshman starter? Shenault is a senior, backup? Harris, Durr, Estes, Thomas?
S - Winfield and Huff starters? Swenson backup? Not sure

As Golfing said, the Gopher depth chart - or position chart - last year was a joke. Players who were injured and not expected to play would still be listed on the chart.

I get that coaches don't want to give anything away - but if that's going to be the case, what's the point of releasing a position chart if it's not accurate.

I run into the same thing with HS Coaches. I'll call them to get their starting lineups - they'll send me a list of starters on Thursday, and Friday night, they'll start someone else. there must be a lot of injuries at those Thursday practices..........

I’ll believe whatever I see Thursday. The list is going to be useless

Howden in two-deep at safety would surprise some; Sapp might be in that two-deep.

Renner in two-deep at defensive tackle would surprise some.

Schoenfelder and Rush in the two-deeps at linebacker would be new names to many.

Bateman starting would surprise some.

Jason Dickson not in the two-deeps will surprise some who thought he might start.

Williamson not starting would be surprising as he has been pencilled in as best cornerback on team since last August.

The lack of a third QB should be surprising and alarming.

Malcolm Robinson not in three deep would be alarming, Umlor not in two-deep would be alarming.

I think many surprised will be how old the first team is. Lot of third, fourth and fifth year guys likely listed as starters; maybe 7 of 11 on offense and 10 of 11 on defense and 5 of the 5 specialists.

I think everybody assumes we have nothing but freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the team.

Complete surprise for me. Going from late PWO to two deep immediately just doesn't happen often.

What's the story on Dickson?
Is he just being totally targeted as a pure red shirt to not play at all (or very little) this year.
Or is he not a great fit with the program?

Wouldn’t be able to find a link for you, but I’m certain that Fleck has said he wants to redshirt him this year. I’m guessing/thinking he wants him to take over for Greene in 2019 & 2020.

I believe Fleck said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that Williamson isn't healthy enough to play now but would be a major contributor if and when he gets there.

I'm nearly certain you are correct. I was going to post the same thing.
