When does it start and have any open practices been announced?

I believe I heard Fleck say Aug. 1st for start date.

I think you can start practicing 4 weeks before the first game, so that would be Aug 2 out in the field. Probably the evening/night before can be used for meetings, etc.

Today on the Sports Huddle Fleck said July 31st was the opening of camp. I assume they'll post a schedule at some point on which practices will be open to the public, any public scrimmages, etc.

To bad, so sad. Iowa has starting defensive tackle suspended. DWI

If it's not against the Gophers it doesn't matter. Glad to have some camp chatter soon so we don't have to have another Streveler thread (and I like(d) him)!

What are GHolers' guesses for how many practices are open to the public? My guess is 4 open to media, and only two open to public.

This was posted last night, fall camp begins July 31st.

per the U:

Gophers To Host Open Practices On Aug. 4, 10 and 16

The University of Minnesota will have three open practices for fans to see this year's team prior to the first game against New Mexico State at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 at TCF Bank Stadium.

The open practices will be August 4, 10 and 16.

Saturday's Aug. 4 practice is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. and will be held on the outdoor fields at Athletes Village. Fans should enter practice through the doors located on 15th Ave.

Friday's Aug. 10 practice will be held at TCF Bank Stadium and will be Minnesota's Family Day, which starts at 4 p.m. Fans should enter TCF Bank Stadium through the West Plaza. In addition to fans being able to watch practice from the stands, there will also be inflatables, face painting and post-practice autographs. Minnesota's lovable mascot Goldy Gopher will also be on hand.

For the second consecutive year, the Minnesota football team will also be hosting a diaper drive in conjunction with the Aug. 10 practice. Fans attending Family Day at TCF Bank Stadium are encouraged to bring disposable diapers. Those diapers will then be donated to the Diaper Bank of Minnesota, which provides diapers and wipes to families in need through partner agencies in the Twin Cities. Fans can bring a six-pack of diapers or a box of 96 diapers, as every diaper donated will help a baby.

Fans attending the Aug. 10 practice can also drop off a decorated oar in the West Plaza that will then be displayed in TCF Bank Stadium outside of Minnesota's locker room.

Thursday's Aug. 16 practice will be held at the outdoor fields at Athletes Village. Fans should enter practice through the doors located on 15th Ave. The Big Ten Network will be at practice and will have a full report on the Gophers that night as they prep for the season.

I realize this early in camp there won't be much to take from the first open practice but I'm starving for anything football related.
I will be interested hearing reports from anyone that goes to the open practice, specifically how some of the new additions to the program and redshirts look!

Hope there is a decent amount controlled scrimmaging to watch during these open practices.

Will they even be in full pads by tomorrow? Might be pretty basic offense vs defense, for a number of practice periods.

I went to camp today and here are a few observations:

1. I think Morgan has the slight edge on Annexstad, but it's pretty close. Neither QB is going to wow anyone and throw it 40 yards downfield, but I was impressed with their accuracy. Pretty much every ball I saw them throw was right where it needed to be and I didn't see either throw a pick.

2. Bryce Williams looked really good at RB. Edmonds as well. I could see both of them getting time as the #2 this year.

3. Demetrius Douglas looked really, really good. He gets open, catches everything, and can take it to the races after the catch. He will be a playmaker for us this year.

4. Bell and Bateman were also impressive and made some plays. I think our top 4 WRs will be TJ, DD, CAB and RB. It will be the best group we've had a in a while.

5. Brevyn Spann-Ford has NFL potential. By far the most physically impressive freshman at TE.

6. We finally have a DE with legit size in Otomewo. I think he starts and plays a lot this year.

7. Terrell Smith seemed to get a lot of action and looked good. I think he plays this year at CB.

It also appears that PJ was being nice to several of the Minnesota kids that he kept in the 2017 recruiting class. There are 3 that are unlikely to see action imo.
