The Cincinnati Bengals have placed defensive lineman Gaelin Elmore on the reserve/retired list, signaling he plans to retire from football.

The former East Carolina Pirates defender originally joined the Bengals as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. There’s been no official announcement Elmore is retiring, as this news was seen on the NFL’s official transaction report for Tuesday, July 17.

The 6’5”, 277-pound Elmore originally accepted a scholarship with the Minnesota Golden Gophers as a tight end, but he switched to defense in his freshman season. He played all along the defensive line in his college career, though he was projected as a 4-3 defensive end in the NFL.

Elmore played his first three collegiate seasons at Minnesota. Because he graduated in 2017, he was allowed to look for other colleges to play for his senior season, and he ultimately decided to attend East Carolina.

In his final season at Minnesota, Elmore played all 13 games, starting six and making 16 tackles, four tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries

At East Carolina, Elmore appeared in just seven games and made 14 tackles.

Good for Elmore. Although he never blossomed into a great football player, he seems to be a good person. I like him even more because he chose Minnesota when he also had an offer from Becky.
