per KSTP:

The University of Minnesota Athletes Village opened earlier this year, but it's still a long way from being fully funded.

Fundraising for the student-athlete complex is more than $40 million from reaching its goal.

The University has raised $123 million of the $166 million goal.

The shortfall comes after several controversies in the athletics department.

"There's always a pothole or two along the road in Minnesota and fortunately we are on a good path with Mark Coyle's leadership and we will be successful," University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler said.

"We are having record fundraising right now with our Athletes Village project, so we are very pleased with where we are at with our fundraising, needless to say we need to continue to raise more," Coyle said.

The University of Minnesota has a fundraising goal of $190 million for all athletic upgrades.

Go Gophers!!

...or, as in other towns, they could report that they are 75% on their way to the goal. Cripes.

Every time someone writes about fund-raising for the Athlete's Village, they have a different fund-raising total. it goes up........it goes down.......but it's never the same. Now, according to this article, it's at $123 million - which is (I believe) the highest figure I have seen.

Thats pretty good IMO.

I don't think the plan was to pay for it outright or anything....

I don't follow you. Shouldn't it be going up, over time?? I would hope so ...

My point is that every time there is a story about the fund-raising, they quote a different figure. one story will come out with a higher total, then a different story will come out later with a lower total. One would think that, if you're doing a story about a fund-raising campaign, there would be an official source to contact to give an accurate total. Just recently - in a July 11th article about Mark Coyle, he was quoted as saying the Athlete's Village fund-raising was at $108 million. In the same article, Coyle said that $123 million had been raised for the "Nothing Short of Greatness"campaign, which is more of a campus-wide effort.

So - I question the original article from KSTP on fundraising. They listed a figure of $123 million, but they said it was for the Athletes Village. I wonder if they got their numbers mixed up.
